Dry em Tribesman! The only poor decisions were from the dodgy Frenchman in the middle supporting Ireland. You were 2nd best all night!

Yep, there should be no excuses from Ireland, they were 2nd best for most of that game. You can argue with some of the ref's decisions but the dicey ones didn't favour any side over the other
England are at home to France next week, hopefully we get the France of the 2nd half last night and build up a bit of momentum to take to Cardiff for the next round.
Ireland have to go to Edinburgh next week, they'll have to up their game there or it'll be played 2, lost 2. I think they'll win there though.

Lets see what week two brings .

Any kind of "" we wuz robbed by the ref"" comments are quite amusing...the view in the studio was...quite rightly..that it was a try...and when rugby starts hhaving to get microscopes and tape measures out to judge this stuff it'll be a sad day.
Most also thought Ireland were lucky with the double movement decision too.

Ireland were pretty much dominated and humped round theit own park by a very good, well-drilled English side. Time to suck it up and move on .

Early doors but but 3rd game in Cardiff is increasingly looking like a title decider, bonus point for England yesterday could be crucial in the grand scheme of things, such a difference in the English intensity especially the defensive line.

Interesting point made in the " Sunday Times " by Peter O'Reilly, The Journalists were handed the stats sheets after the game in Dublin yesterday which showed Ireland won the possession battle by 60-40, won territory, their tackle % was better, they conceded only 4 penalties to England's 8, and England were down to 14 for 10 minutes, and Ireland made more yards and made more carries .....

However, but for that late consolation try, England would have won 32 - 13 ..... it's the quality and speed of possession, and whereabouts on the pitch that counts in Rugby ...

I think there's a subtle clue there in the journo's surname.

8 turnovers for England, 2 for Ireland.
4 tries for England, 2 tries for Ireland.

How much of Ireland's possession was inside England's 25 and how much England possession was in Ireland's? I cant find those stats but would it'd be interesting to see alongside the other stats.

Early days yet in the 6N but an unexpectedly good start by England.

So week two and the first up is the Scots v the Irish . Now this will be a hard game to call the Irish have to improve after last week where Schmidt got it wrong . The Irish have made changes and losing Toner is the big one as i see the Scots winning everything in the line out . So going to be very close but i think Ireland will win by one score . Game two had Italy at home to Wales , now on paper this seems like a stroll for Wales but they have made 10 changes this may come back to to haunt them , i can see Wales clearing the bench in the last quarter to win the game . Sunday and how good are England ? I think they will win as France will go with beef and run out of steam so England to win by 14 points .

3-12 after 18 minutes to Ireland.

Cracking try by Stockdale just now, he saw the gap and no one was catching him.

End to end stuff, sounds like plenty of Irish inside Murrayfield.

Very good game so far... Amazing how rugby players shake off there injuries. There was one collision akin to the player being run over by a bus....... He got up though and cracked on. "Touch" a footballer and they embarrassingly collapse in a heap.

England vs France at 3.00pm.
This from the Guardian..a big weight of expectation on England after last week's terrific win in Dublin.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/ ... xpectation" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

England are 1/6 and France 13/2

Taking nothing for granted EVER against the French though they're out of sorts, and change their team every time they lose.
Score prediction is 29-16.

We will miss Itoje, a truly world class player but Courtney Lawes will do a good job.
Ashton in for Jack Nowell, a bit surprising.

Hoping for big games from Manu Tuilagi, Jonny May and those Vunipola boys.

Not sure why we'd send Billy and Mako Vunipola back to Australia and New Zealand, they're strong enough.

44-8...57 minutes.

- looked like an England offence on that last try, May holding the bloke's arm?

Goodness England were very good I must say , the ball behind the French defence got them every time it looked like the French were not that worried and gave up long before the end .
So Week 2 over .
England are the one to catch for sure as they look like they could win the slam , hey we will see .
The Irish not firing at all and the Scots kiss goodbye to the triple crown .
As for Wales well never in doubt not sure where Italy go from here maybe a winner takes all from their game against France .

France are very fragile. The previous week, they had a decent first half v Wales then succumbed to awful individual errors.
It's always difficult to understand the balance of how good the winners were/how bad the losers were in a thrashing like Sunday's (see also Man City v Chelsea). I think England are hot at the mo though and France looked very vulnerable with players who are usually centres on each wing & a FB with not a lot of defensive positional sense.

Cardiff is a difficult next outing for England. My bookie has England slight (4 points) favourite for that and, on the form so far, that seems reasonable (though Wales' game in Italy didn't reveal much about who/how they might play on 23rd Feb).
There'll only be one unbeaten team in it after that game (ruling out a draw) but Ireland are still in with a chance (especially if it's Wales who win the England clash as Ireland still have the opportunity to win v Wales).

I can't see Scotland coming back into the reckoning, their squad is very stretched by injuries already & they have to go to France & England & play Wales at home.

As always, an excellent competition all round, great viewing.

The great thing about the Six Nations is it's unpredictably, since Italy's addition in 2000,England have 6 titles,France 5 and Ireland and Wales 4,plus there has only been 10 Grand Slams,it's pleasing to watch a tournament where the outcome is uncertain, unlike most of the PL matches.

If England win in Cardiff they have a massive opportunity to get the Grand Slam,a Welsh triumph throws everything in the air,so for the sake of the competition,a home win would be welcome, but as an Englishman exiled in Scotland i can't wish for that.

I can vouch for the unpredictability ..... my Rugby Club runs an annual prediction competition where you submit your predicted scores, so you predict say, England 32 France 12 ( actual score 44 -8, so you're 12 points out for England, 4 for France, so your score is 16 .... add them up over the 15 games & lowest score wins ) ..

I'm 55, I've played the game, take a keen interest etc .... I'm currently being beaten by my wife, three of her friends ( and with all respect, they wouldn't know Fran Cotton from Ferne Cotton ), my son, my son's fiancee, most of my former team mates, and several of their children, including a 17 year old girl, and my 83 year old Dad, who last played when you nailed the studs in, and a try was worth 3 points !!

My fellow poster on here, " Cabello " lies 54th out of 121, " Iluvmywife " is 64th, and I'm 78th ..... the only way is up !! :D :D

Yes it's greatly unpredictable. For starters, you can never remotely know how open the game will be. I thought Ireland v England would be a real slugfest- something like 12-6 but ended 20-32. I thought England would overcome France but by something like 20-10, actual 44-8 (who could forecast how poor the French defence was v kicks).

I like to bet small stake on each game but usually go for the "17 way" where you go for team A beating team B by 1-5 or 6-10 or 11-15 etc. Only got one right so far out of 6 games, went for Ireland to beat Scotland by 6-10 and just about scraped that one but only 17/4 odds so still down overall.

I've had a bash at the Telegraph Fantasy (6N) rugby this year too, first time Ive tried fantasy game other than footy- quite enjoying participation though wish Id picked Jonny May!

Big blow for England Mako Vunipola ruled out of the remaining Six Nations games,Leigh Halfpenny fit for the Welsh, could be a decisive factor in the Cardiff showdown.

Mako is a loss to England but I'm not sure if 1/2p is much of a benefit to Wales. He's a great dead-ball kicker but not as dangerous as Liam Williams at running with the ball in hand. As an English supporter Id prefer to see 1/2p at 15 rather than Williams.
Moon and Genge have a chance to step up in Mako's absence, England still slight favourites for me.

Where's decent to watch rugby in Burnley now? I fancy watching the England game on Saturday but don't want to end up somewhere where they decide the Leicester game is more important and turn over.

Not sure about a "rugby pub" in Burnley but any rugby club is usually good. It can be a problem in non-rugby towns watching 6N though, Ive gone to pubs sometimes to watch (say) Eng v France and found some dire 2nd/3rd tier footy game on that c 2 people are half watching & landlord refusing to put rugby on.
The last post led me to re-read this thread & thought it interesting to compare the odds at the start and now
From an earlier post:
current betting for the tournament is...

Ireland 5/6
England 10/3
Wales 5/1
France 16/1
Scotland 16/1
Italy 1000/1
Respective adds now Ireland 11/1; Eng 1/5: Wales 5/1; France 500/1; Sc 50/1, It 5000/1.
It'll all change for the top two this weekend if Wales win.

82.. aggi - I would go to Burnley Rugby Club ( was once Calder Vale Rugby Club)... pretty much behind the Oaks Hotel or whatever it’s called now ( Best Western ? )
That’s on Colne Rd? on the right about half a mile from Brierfield border.

They’ll have the internationals on.. good cheap ale as well.

Very good chance of rugby in the 110.

Some chance in the Miners.

Some chance in the Talbot.

Coach and Horses - Burnley match won’t be on ( no Sky TV) but I bet she’ll put the rugby on, if you ask her nicely)

Screens in those pubs under the Culvert, not sure what the regulars think of 15 a side.

Right then the night before as they say .
So France v The Scots just can't see the Scots winning this one no matter how bad the French have been so far so an easy win the the French .
Wales v England , hummmmm this is the one as if the English win they will win the slam , now would hate to predict this one but i say their will be loads of tries a real open game which nobody expects and i will sit on the fence to say who will win this one . Love to see Wales win just to see the face on Jones at full time .
Italy v Ireland well yer it will be close until the last 20 then the Irish will let rip and rack up 40 plus points .
We will see the today brings ( just saw it after midnight ) ......

Wales v England, 5 points either way, too close to call ... heart says England, but I was 25 before I saw England win in Cardiff ...

Ireland to win by 25 -35 points, in Rome ....

Just had some bets.
Sunday's game first: Ireland, like Wales in the last round, are resting quite a few established players (/using an opportunity to try out some 2nd stringers) v Italy. Wales struggled a bit in Rome with so many changes but Ireland still have a strong core + the incomers pretty experienced. Ireland to win by 21-25 (@ 13/2 odds).

France v Scotland. A lot of (top player) injuries for Scotland to deal with but France have been dire so far in the 6N so I still think they have a good chance. A very inexperienced 10 for France but at least they're playing backs in their proper positions unlike v England. If Scotland are still in the game at half time, I think they'll win because France seem so fragile in confidence. Scotland win by 1-5 (@ 6/1).

Wales v England the big one (not least because a close family member is Welsh). I think England have better form currently but Wales are at home so difficult to call- especially as there may be a card or two involved given the occasion. I've gone for England by 6-10 (@17/4).
If Wales win, England will be looking for Ireland to upset Wales in Cardiff in the last round 16 March.

All good stuff anyway, whatever.

a very poor 2nd half from England - should have taken those points just before half time

Iechyd da. - a Welsh "y" is never prononced like an English "y", the closest welsh to an English "y" sound is the "ie" combination. Just as the closest Welsh to the English "sh" sound is the "si" combination.

A great day all round.

I feared a double loss, so relief more than anything.

Not sure what Englands constant kicking the ball away was about but it neverworked all the match and Jones should have changed to plan B.
I thought the Wales left wing knocked on in the build up to the decisive try but as they were well worth the win. Feck it.
