If these two can get 50s and give us more than 100 to bowl at we have a slight chance.

Need specialist batsmen not a team of all rounders and medium pace bowlers who perform well in England but not overseas.

We’ve got a lot of number 6’s and 7’s.
Not a lot that should be batting higher.

sack root as captain far to weak and his batting has suffered ,give Anderson the captaincy in the short term at least you know the batters would get a proper bollocking after yet another batting collapse

Re: West Indies v England 2nd Test Thursday
The West Indies created pitches suited to our bowling attack. The distinct lack of test match batsmen cost us dearly and put our bowlers under pressure, not to mention the absolute brain fart the selectors had in the first test, the got all emotional with the spin attacks performance against a poor poor Sri Lanka.CleggHall wrote:Need specialist batsmen not a team of all rounders and medium pace bowlers who perform well in England but not overseas.
There is only root who has a defense suited to test cricket and he’s drastically out of form. The jury’s still out on him as captain as well.

Whilst not the worst shout I’d be reluctant to put anymore on Anderson’s shoulders.dr dre wrote:sack root as captain far to weak and his batting has suffered ,give Anderson the captaincy in the short term at least you know the batters would get a proper bollocking after yet another batting collapse

I've said it many times before, Root is too nice/soft to be a Test Match captain. Plus, oh for a Ken Barrington, Geoff Boycott, Graham Gooch etc: players, who know how to build a test innings.

Well the England team are in a mess so why not take the captaincy off Root who is clearly struggling for form and give it to Buttler for the last test and see how we go.Vino blanco wrote:I've said it many times before, Root is too nice/soft to be a Test Match captain. Make Root bat at number three and get it out of his head that he has to be at number four.
Go and look at the pitch and pick a team that is suited to it rather than a Woolworth's pick 'n' mix.
And whilst the ECB are at it why don't they look at their selectors and themselves as we have totally ******* up this three match test tour.
Let's hope for the fans who have gone out there that we can perform better in the one day and T20 games.

The batting has been a problem for several years now,it has been masked by the middle lower order cobbling together scores, and the bowlers delivering more often than not, what this tour shows is what many feared and suspected, that the Ashes debacle wasn't a one-off,the basic point is none of the top 4 regularly score hundreds, which if you're going to win test matches is a prerequisite.
What the hell does Ramprakash coach cos the defensive techniques and ability to build an innings are non-existent,look at Bravo bats nearly 6 hours and anchors the lower order to a decent total on a difficult pitch, compare to England's scatterbrained gung-ho mindset.
I don't want to depress anyone but the Aussies are rolling Sri Lanka over having racked up 4 hundreds and Starc taking a 5 for in the first innings, could be a long summer.
Of course if England win the World Cup,which is a good bet then no-one at the ECB will give a toss,if you really wanted to shake things up then you could stop the central contracts system,or put a clause in the contract that any players on central contracts can't swan off to the IPL and the like,it's about time England started treating test cricket seriously.
No excuse but where was the warm-up preparations, and amazingly there will be no 4 day games prior to the New Zealand tests this coming Winter.

Re: West Indies v England 2nd Test Thursday
Ive been following English cricket since the early 60's and seen a lot of ups and downs but the way we've performed in this series so far has been as big a disappointment as any. Getting thrashed by a pretty average side (albeit in their own backyard).
As per previous post, you do have to wonder what all those coaches/helpers/bag-carriers are contributing when we perform as poorly as this.
