Hendrick

Post by scouseclaret » Wed Jan 30, 2019 8:54 pm

Just been watching the Sky highlights and was reminded that, in addition to giving away a needless (if soft) penalty, Hendrick was also responsible for Rashford’s chance early on after a dreadful mis-control, and also a loose pass which ended with Mata getting caught narrowly offside.

I know he gets a lot of stick on here - some of it merited, some of it harsh - but last night he cost us one, and could easily have cost us 3, goals. Im really struggling to see what he brings to the table.

Hendrick on the right has been a major reason for our upturn in form in my opinion.

I actually thought he played pretty well last night and was a big part of what was a really good "collective" display, BUT why the hell he felt the need to reach out grab at Lingard I really don't know. Shame, but it cost us dear unfortunately.

See the ratings thread for people who watch the whole game closely, mark as a natural and don't get masked or swayed by others good work or the result ..

He has done well recently but against a top side his frailties came to the fore, he did cost us last night but who wouldn't have taken a point before kick off, he hasn't been everyones favourite but he worked as hard as the rest of the lads, I think he should be forgiven this once.

Why didn’t you post this after the Fulham game with your brilliant ability to pick out his contributions?

He made plenty of mistakes against Fulham.

He's like Brexit. Fans of his on here go way overboard to counteract his haters who also go overboard.

I thought he had another good game last night. 110% effort all match. Mistakes can be costly though

If you are struggling to see what he brings to the table then I'd suggest watching him rather than highlighting every little mistake while presumably ignoring the mistakes others make. Last night he didn't cost us one at all.

All of our players make mistakes - that's why they play for us. If you were to concentrate on another player and watch them for a full match there will be instances where they lose the ball and it leads to a chance for the opposition.

Hendrick has been great playing wide in a midfield 4. I would even go as far as to say he's shown his best form in that position as it seems to give him a bit more space and freedom to drive forward.

Didn't think he had his greatest game last night, but you'd have to be a bit of an imbecile to miss the positive effect he had defensively when he swapped wings with McNeil, so I assume the OP wasn't at the game. Instantly, Young ceased to be a threat, because Hendrick's positioning and defensive work meant he had none of the space he'd had previously.

Penalty is a moment of madness but these things happen.

Of course he did. Regardless of whether or not it was a penalty, faced with a ref who was clearly desperate to give one, needless grabbing Lingard’s shoulder as he did was a crass error that ultimately cost us 2 points.

Since he has moved onto the right he has been very good. He looks far more comfortable there than in the hole. He certainly main an error for the penalty but overall he has been much improved over recent weeks

Yes he OP was at the game, where he witnessed Ashley Young supply the cross for their equaliser, so the second part of your post is clearly ********. Maybe you weren’t...

Why did it cost us 2 points ?
I’m pretty sure they only scored one goal from the penalty.
Maybe have a look at the equaliser and try and work out why 3 of their players were unmarked when we had so many players in the box....if you really feel the need to apportion any blame.
Or even better enjoy the fact that we just got a draw at Manchester United !

Not really, because the equaliser came from a corner from which our regular set up did not apply and so he was not Hendrick's man.

If you were at the game and didn't spot the huge reduction in the space Young had once McNeil and Hendrick swapped sides then I'm not sure what you were watching. It was blindingly obvious.

He will always be expected to do a bit more as he's our record signing for a midfield position.

So you don’t think the penalty was THE pivotal moment of the game? And I’m the one who wasn’t watching???

Didn’t say that and I don’t know why Hendrick did it but Lingard cheated and it’s an indisputable fact that the subsequent penalty did not cost us 2 points.
Without Hendrick playing aswell as he did alongside everyone else playing well it’s likely we would not have been in any position to gain a single point.

Definitely made a mistake for the penalty, but again had a very good game.

I'd even go as far to say that that's his best position in the team. He certainly has played far better on the right than I've seen him play in the centre.
