Brooks at Bournemouth
What a player this lad is. Absolutely fearless. If he fills out he could be unstoppable.
Would have loved us to have been in for him. From on our doorstep and released by City, shame we werent on to him when Sheffield United were. At least we are looking at that route with Dunne, McNeil etc.

Wales are going to have some players with Brooks, Harry Wilson and Ben Woodburn coming through.
BTW two of them are English born.

Good player. Why does he need to fill out? I think his size and build make him the graceful player he is.cricketfieldclarets wrote:What a player this lad is. Absolutely fearless. If he fills out he could be unstoppable.

Not sure filling out is a good idea, think about Jon Parkincricketfieldclarets wrote:What a player this lad is. Absolutely fearless. If he fills out he could be unstoppable.

Still the best player to come to Turf Moor this season for me.

Indeed. Shame Howe caused so much damage to our own youth policy whilst he was here.Devils_Advocate wrote:Goes to show what you can achieve with some good coaching and man management

And what damage was that? It was terrible before he came.Spijed wrote:Indeed. Shame Howe caused so much damage to our own youth policy whilst he was here.
We have produced one player who came all the way through in the last 30 yrs.
We have had a bit of success getting lads in rejected by their clubs, the model Stan Ternent wanted us to adopt.

Re: Brooks at Bournemouth
It wasn't terrible prior to him coming in. It was building nicely under Dobbo & Vince but it had, admittedly, been in a state prior to that. Then we pushed them both out to bring in Jason Blake who all but shut it down. We're now category 2 but he failed the category 3 audit and it was only getting into the Premier League that helped us keep it. Howe made a mistake bringing in Blake, a serious mistake, but the worst mistake of all was allowing him to do that when prior to then and since, the academy has run separately from the manager. I believe Flood and Fletcher were the two that allowed it.Quickenthetempo wrote:And what damage was that? It was terrible before he came.

Re: Brooks at Bournemouth
As for Brooks, remember seeing him in the Sheffield derby last season and how good he looked. Didn't know he'd been at City, I wrongly thought he'd come right through the system at Sheffield United.

So not Eddie Howe's fault as stated above then?ClaretTony wrote:It wasn't terrible prior to him coming in. Bad appointment by Howe but he should never have been able to appoint him in the first placeboatshed bill wrote:So not Eddie Howe's fault as stated above then?

As fans, we don't know the decisions on who brings in who, but the board kept Blake on for some time after Howe left didn't they?
The buck has to stop with them in my eyes who should be keeping an eye on everything.

I often think that Howe gets a bad deal on here. Not perfect, but not the pantomime villain some would have us believe.ClaretTony wrote:Bad appointment by Howe but he should never have been able to appoint him in the first place
Did some good things, and seems he wanted to revamp the youth system, maybe he got the appointment of Blake wrong, but that's what directors are for, isn't it?

Re: Brooks at Bournemouth
He got the whole thing wrong with the youth department. It didn't need revamping but what he did was bring someone in to run it who had no idea how to. We lost good staff, coaches and scouts, and he was hell bent on removing anyone who dared question him.boatshed bill wrote:I often think that Howe gets a bad deal on here. You are so right, the directors should have stopped it, but obviously this didn't happen did it? Why it was ever allowed to continue in the way it did is beyond me but Flood finally did the decent thing and gave him a job with UCFB.

Re: Brooks at Bournemouth
Absolutely, they weren't keeping an eye on things and weren't even looking at the problems. I think the appointment of Dave Baldwin as chief exec was the catalyst. He saw the problems and ensured they were dealt with.Quickenthetempo wrote:As fans, we don't know the decisions on who brings in who, but the board kept Blake on for some time after Howe left didn't they?

Re: Brooks at Bournemouth
Howe knows if they ain’t ready for the first team by the time they get to 20 they never will be. It’s pointless having them players around who ain’t.

Not necesarily like Akinbiyi. Just a bit more presence and power.Jakubs Tash wrote:Good player. Why does he need to fill out? I think his size and build make him the graceful player he is.
You are right he might not need to. Especially as the game eradicates all contact.
Re: Brooks at Bournemouth
They signed him for roughly what we paid for Jeff Hendrick. This summer gone instead of challenging them for his signature we spent the whole thing chasing a 29 year old striker.
Makes you think.

And how much did they pay for Nathan Ake in comparison to what we paid for Tarkowski?SGr wrote:They signed him for roughly what we paid for Jeff Hendrick. This summer gone instead of challenging them for his signature we spent the whole thing chasing a 29 year old striker.

Easy to find fault in transfer dealings isn't it?

Both of them are great players with the potential to improve and be sold for big money should the offers come in. Saw Ake linked with a 30m move back to Chelsea just this window.Spijed wrote:And how much did they pay for Nathan Ake in comparison to what we paid for Tarkowski?

Brooks vs Rodriguez? Different matter entirely.
Re: Brooks at Bournemouth
Dwight McNeill may never have got in the first team had we signed him and look how good a player he looks like becoming in the future.SGr wrote:Both of them are great players with the potential to improve and be sold for big money should the offers come in. Re: Brooks at Bournemouth
If he was playing for a championship club right now I really do doubt we’d be in for him. We did sign him, years ago for the academy. Good to see it is finally starting to produce again.Spijed wrote:Dwight McNeill may never have got in the first team had we signed him and look how good a player he looks like becoming in the future.

Also to add, if Brooks was so much in demand how come he never went to one of the big clubs?SGr wrote:They signed him for roughly what we paid for Jeff Hendrick. This summer gone instead of challenging them for his signature we spent the whole thing chasing a 29 year old striker.

Dele Alli, is/was seen as a big talent and was soon snapped up by Spurs.

They will let him get experience in the premier league and buy him when he gets to that level.

Spurs loaned Dele Alli back to MK Dons because he wasn't ready for their first team but they still signed him.Quickenthetempo wrote:Because he wasn't ready to play for the first team of any of the big 6.

Bournemouth are so small-time. Sometimes we get a bit above ourselves.Spijed wrote:Spurs loaned Dele Alli back to MK Dons because he wasn't ready for their first team but they still signed him.
This was a great move for Brooks, and a manager prepared to show faith in him.
Re: Brooks at Bournemouth
If none of the bigger clubs were in for Brooks it's all the more reason why we should have taken a chance on him. Unfortunately we'd rather sign old lags like Jon Walters.Spijed wrote:Also to add, if Brooks was so much in demand how come he never went to one of the big clubs?

Re: Brooks at Bournemouth
Has Howe ever fetched a player through from the youths?
I don’t follow them that closely but he seems to sign shedloads of players who go straight in.

Prior to Bournemouth signing him I wonder how many on here had even heard of him?jrgbfc wrote:If none of the bigger clubs were in for Brooks it's all the more reason why we should have taken a chance on him. Unfortunately we'd rather sign old lags like Jon Walters.
Hindsight is great!
Anyway, matters not, we have our own great talent in Dwight McNeil!
Re: Brooks at Bournemouth
Never said he was in demand. Just took a smart club to scout him out and spot the talent. Maddison didn’t end up at a top 6 club either, and I spent January-Summer banging on about himSpijed wrote:Also to add, if Brooks was so much in demand how come he never went to one of the big clubs?

Re: Brooks at Bournemouth
Same as Jarrod Bowen at Hull. Why not take a bit of a gamble on him rather than spunk money and wages on the likes of Walters, Wells, Crouch etc.
