If we are serious about Adams we can sign him. In fact, if we were ever serious about him in the first place we could’ve signed him two weeks ago.

SD has been here six years and it still staggers me that some believe he would reveal ANYTHING about potential deals to the media before they were done
I'm not saying any are incoming - but to expect him to even tell us all that there "might" is naive - you haven't been paying attention for the last six years

That’s an appalling bit of business, when I checked the league this morning we were 4th bottom. We’ve weakened the squad and not strengthened the first team, there’s no explanation

As for the board, how did we even get to be in this position, where debating whether Peter Crouch is a bad signing or not, if they are so terrible?

Better start the summer transfer thread early.
What areas need strengthening in the summer"
Midfielder with guile?
Wide man with pace?
It's sure to be a "difficult" window

Do you think Crouch could start a game / play 90 minutes ? Or do you think he is a lot less likely to ?claretspice wrote:If we don't do any more business, I'll be disappointed, but I'm not sure I follow how we are weaker?
Personally I doubt it whereas I have no doubts Vokes could. So I do think this makes us weaker.

Re: Transfer Deadline Day
If the extent of our transfer business this window is to sell Sam Vokes and sign 38-year-old Peter Crouch, that's another desperately poor effort. I've nothing against Crouch, he may come on in the last few minutes and nick us a goal but I feel we need to be more ambitious than this. It could be argued that our squad is weaker now for this deal because unlike Crouch, Vokes is young enough to be able to start games and see them out for the most part. It's pretty negligent of the club not to bolster the squad in the areas we know we're weakened - after all, we've been in such a situation on at least one occasion before. One or two more injuries and we could easily be in trouble. So I guess it's just cross our fingers and hope for the best!

Sam has been a great servant and deserves/needs to be playing. For 40 minutes or less Crouch is if anything more of a threat.
We owe it to Sam to do the business, a big fee a good club and a good chance of a return to the top flight in the not too distant future if he's lucky.
Better Crouchy helping the kids and happy to be a bit player is every bit as good as a player in his prime over the time period he's likely to figure.
Sam's best interests are also a motivation for his manager to agree this.
I'm not happy love Sam but if this is our only business then I can fully understand why it has been done.

The Twitter storm whether you like it or not does show a lot of fans reactions to our business in this window and it is universally angry.fidelcastro wrote:I don't read the garbage spouted on Twitter (this forum is bad enough!).

Your point about the Board is not answering the my point about their attitude towards the manager or the fans. There are no excuses to hide the fact that we need players to strengthen the team, we have the money to do so and their are players out there we could have gone for. I know the club don't always advertise what their transfer targets are but they always seem fixated on one player, either faff about making a bid, offer ridiculous amounts less than a players valuation or don't make bids at all. Why no links to loans ? Why no winger ? FFS what is the sale of Vokes and getting Crouch in do to improve things. Surely you must concede that this window is a joke if no more players are incoming ?

Re: Transfer Deadline Day
amazingly we've reduced the pace of our team even more. I do think Crouch will be a threat though if we can get a few set pieces etc
Re: Transfer Deadline Day
100% makes us weaker. An injury to Wood and I think it would be very hard to argue that Vokes playing for the rest of the season would be very much stronger than Crouch playing for the rest of the season.
If that’s it, it’s certainly disappointing. We can only carry on so long with an approach that runs unnecessary risks, by running with a bare bones squad.
An injury to Cork or Westwood now could be disastrous with Defour seemingly a long way off the pace and few other options.

I can see that regarding Sam wanting to leave. But what if Wood gets injured? We could do with another 90 minute player, that's what we will be losing.elwaclaret wrote:I don't see us being weaker either tbh.

Trying to look on the bright side, Crouch will hopefully be able to take advantage of the crossing skills of young McNeil as well as Gudmundsson.Vegas Claret wrote:amazingly we've reduced the pace of our team even more. I do think Crouch will be a threat though if we can get a few set pieces etc

Re: Transfer Deadline Day
I am writing off Defour and possibly Brady. Jbg and lennon are virtually sicknotes. We needed a right-footed winger last year and another cm when we weren't expecting to be 4th bottom atm.
The mind boggles at the risks this club takes.

Re: Transfer Deadline Day
Regarding Wood, it was only a few weeks ago that many on here thought we had a rubbish striker on our hands, and that we'd been ripped off paying £18 million for him.

As long we avoid injuries, this isn't bad.
But its a silly risk to be taking if we are relying on not getting injuries and suspensions.

I do like this what if someone gets injured and we are a striker down.
Some of these are the same ones who whinged about signing Joe Hart when we had 2 keepers already injured.

Possibly but Sam was a better header of a ball than Crouch ever was.mdd2 wrote:If he can keep up with play and get into the box
Technically Crouch was a better play than Sam a few years ago but he’s shown so little in recent times this feels like a massive (and unnecessary) risk

Which is funny because our board are known to be very cautious and risk-averse. And yet they take this risk (again) of leaving us weak and short of numbers in certain areas.Lancasterclaret wrote:As long we avoid injuries, this isn't bad.

Re: Transfer Deadline Day
You would have thought a decent striker would have been landed before bringing in a 38 year old who comes on for the final 10 minutes of games.
Sean Dyche said he knows all about his fitness and distance covered so perhaps he will play 90?
Sky reporter says Vokes/Crouch deal reflects the fact Burnley have to be careful with finances (where did he get that idea from?)
