Rowett didn't have a clue what he was doing with Stoke this season, but Crouch's and Vokes' goals/game ratio is virtually identical for last season. We're talking about getting a bit of money to swap bench warmers who do basically the same thing. Failure from the club to further strengthen the XI isn't exactly Crouch's fault.

Re: ARTICLE: Ouch it's Crouch
Think its a very good bit of business.
Sam committed to the club to mean we got a fee on the understanding that an offer that he fancies comes in he can go.
We aren't sure to get CA over so Peter Crouch comes in if he doesn't kick a ball for the first team he brings a career where he's seen and done it. Hope it works out and it goes on longer so he can help the players with everything about being the top level sportsman and footballer who is amongst the most under-rated outside of the clubs he's played for.
Peter Crouch will surprise a few on here, I've never heard a bad word about him by anyone who has watched him and certainly not those who have worked with him.
I'll miss Sam big time, but the more I get to chew it over the more I think this is very very clever.

Re: ARTICLE: Ouch it's Crouch
I have no beef with Crouch and wish him well and now he is her he will get the backing of all clarets. It's just such an unambiguous signing, which I think is the Board preparing for a possible relegation rather than pushing the boat out to stay up.

Re: ARTICLE: Ouch it's Crouch
It's not an unreasonable move given that Sam Vokes was desperate to get away to be able to play more games. The problem again is that we haven't been able to get anyone else in, but you have to suspect that those players who we saw as improving the team either didn't want to come or were prevented from doing so by there clubs.
It's nothing to do with having a poor recruitment policy, it's just the reality of a small club trying to compete in the Premier League. And so far, despite all the obstacles we have to overcome, we are doing very well at it. No club on our level has matched our recent achievements, and consider how Huddersfield are faring as they are the only comparable case.

Whilst I welcome Peter Crouch to our Team, I can't help but feel that the squad has left the Transfer Window weaker than when it entered it.
Re: ARTICLE: Ouch it's Crouch
If we'd managed to bring in another striker who can play a full 90 mins if we have injuries then I can understand this but as it is I can't. Maybe it is what's best for Sam but definitely not for us.

I ignored all those rumours yesterday because I thought it was a load of ********. I must admit to being quite gobsmacked by this. Let's hope it works out and Crouch comes off the bench and grabs a couple of winners. You've got to have hope - even if it's only a smidgen.

We’ve lost a player that ideally we’d have been happy to keep and replaced him with a player who’s been thrown into the deal as a bit of a sweetner.
Very odd.

I couldn’t really argue with any of those reasons, the real disappointment is not adding to our squad by securing the signing of Adams.
thats about as logical a thought process as is possible to have, id only add that maybe dyche thinks crouch coming of the bench for the last 20 mins offers more threat than vokes in the next 4 months

I'm a bit underwhelmed but Crouch gets my backing as does any other player who pulls on a Burnley shirt. I'd have been a bit happier had this signing been announced along with another signing or two but it'll have to do.

Reid, Taylor, Walters, Hart, Crouch. Evidence would suggest so, overwhelmingly. Incredibly it appears there are people on here who think SD has no input into signings and we just happen to end up with these creaky knee signings time after time.jrgbfc wrote:Crouch is British, experienced and a "good character" for the dressing room. I just described Sam to a Potters mate of mine as “good at hold-up play with his back to goal, so an outlet player. Directional heading ability - scores fabulous headed goals. But has no speed.” My pal said “wait, are you describing Vokes or Crouch?”
So in a sense that type of player wasn’t getting a game with us. We’ve replaced that type of player until the summer, and we’ve cashed in with 7m..... so that’s a POV

And when we add the 25% addon to Wolverhampton it realy is about the size of it that makes good business

Re: ARTICLE: Ouch it's Crouch
Weren't there strong rumours last summer that we were trying to sign Peter Crouch. When you look at the way our club operates within strict financial guidelines and the totally inflated fees and wages being demanded by other clubs, agents and players I believe that the Crouch signing always remained a possibility in the background. Especially when you look at our style of play particularly towards the end of games.
When Sam came to say goodbye to the fans after the game on Tuesday night we knew he was on his way. The amount of work and effort by manager and club staff to get a deal with Stoke and to get a replacement for Sam that Dyche was happy with at the same time shows how difficult the market is. It must be mind numbing and totally frustrating for personnel at clubs without billionaire owners and geographically situated outside the main population centres to be involved in it. I fervently hope it works out for all of us and that Peter Crouch will endear himself to clarets everywhere like Big Shoulders Sam did.

If we are signing relics let’s buy some stocks to put on Brunshaw Rd to put the buffoon in who is responsible for this. That will provide some entertainment on matchday.

Re: ARTICLE: Ouch it's Crouch
Personally I think this is a great deal
Perhaps I am on my own but Crouch for 6 months with no fee for Sam who we get 7 million plus add ons
Sam like Tom Heaton a few weeks back probably wanted to leave to get games.
With Wood and Barnes now starting each game, Vokes won’t get a look in except for last 20 minutes of games perhaps. Crouch will be able to come off the bench instead of Sam.
People mentioning injury to Wood or Barnes maybe but who knows Vokes May get injured.
Think Sean Dyche has more idea about which players he wants than some clowns posting on this board
