A good window

As SSN have now been told ll business done and good night from Turf Moor.
We can now look at the window as a whole.

All things considered we have...

*Got a few young lads out Ian getting valuable first team experience
*Signed McNeil on a long term deal
*Results have picked up
*Injured lads getting back to full fitness
*We make a net profit of 7m minimum
* season tickets are frozen again

As fans we always want more, but certainly not a bad window when you look at it as an whole.

Whats gonna happen in summer when it comes to player recruitment . A few of our players are injury prone some out of contract which will need replacing . We was after a winger we never got one i just think were going to be in the same situation and not much happening because we wont pay the fees / wages for the good players

I'm looking back at January as a whole... it's not been all doom and gloom. In fact it's been quite a positive January for all things BFC. Certainly not many if any negatives.

Let’s hope Barnes and Wood stay fit. There are now less players pushing for their starting place. Not sure how that helps push their performance levels.

This is the January equivalent of that “What a bloody window!!!!” thread we had back in August.

The squad has been weakened, the average age has gone up, and we’ve come off looking incredibly tinpot again with regards to the bidding process.

Well people viewing the signing as a negative, so I was merely highlighting the rest of the positives for balance.

I did add *signing and experienced ex England international, but it would have turned into a Crouch slanting thread, and we have one of those, this was just a look back on January as a whole.

The team and club is bigger than any 1 player.

Some good points from Macca and there are lots of positives from this recent period or ‘window’ - McNeil especially and we’re on our best run for a year or so.
Adams looks a great fit for me so I am a bit gutted about not getting him but it’s hardly anything to keep me awake at night. Roll on Saturday.

Putting the farm at risk by selling off a pedigree bull early doesn't strike me as a very good deal for the club.

Sam's departure has weakened us. If the figure is £7m, then bringing in £5m that we don't urgently need is a poor deal.

Especially when we could have got the same or possibly more in the next window without exposing ourselves to the risk of diminished strength if anything happens to Wood or Barnes. I guess our primary focus on Premier League survival just took a backseat with short term financial gain moving to the fore.

£10-12m could be classed as a very good deal, but I seriously doubt we received anything close to that. £9-10m would have been reasonable and £7m would be cheap.

On second thoughts a broken window that lets in a chilling winter breeze is probably a more fitting metaphor.

We are fourth from bottom , 14 games to go, and our last 5 games are incredibly tough. We may have hit form but we know our club can suddenly go 6 or 7 games without winning-it even happened in our great season last year.

I think Cardiff & Huddersfield are going to find it tough to stay up. If Fulham play to their strengths we could be in the ****. Saints have developed some real steel, Newcastle have strengthened today and come into form and Palace can beat most teams on their day and have genuine quality.

Generally underwhelmed with this window. It sadly brings back memories of the past two windows. Dyche seems to have a love for players in their twilight years-Steven Read, Taylor, Walters, Hart and now Crouch to mention a few. Did we even enquire about Austin as a loan. 20 weeks @£70k is £1.4m. This guy is still formidable and could have found the net and kept Wood/Barnes on their toes-a small price to pay for a proven aggressive goal scorer.

FML I’ve heard it all now! Drama queenery at its finest. This is Sam Vokes we’re talking about. Not disputing he’s knocked some goals in for us in the past, but 7 in the last two seasons, he’s not exactly prolific is he?

I had a new front window fitted about 18 months ago and it's absolutely the best window I've seen since!! As others have said, somebody is taking an almighty gamble that the players/squad we have right now stay fit, avoid suspensions and remain good enough to finish 4th bottom or better. IMO we're not spending, but we're still betting the ranch!!!

Personally it’s a good window if you can keep all your first team intact and have a squad to go on with for the rest of the season. Our net result is - we are where we were, which I am ok with.

Goes to show how cr8p this window is when the deadline day headline is us & Crouch.
Another separation between the big clubs and the others, the big clubs can afford to do deals early and aren't haggling over a million or two hear & there. Set a sticker price and pay

If Peter Crouch still had all of the match winning attributes awarded to him by posters on this message board it is amazing that Stoke have let him go and replaced him with Sam Vokes. Maybe, if matches lasted just 10 minutes.

I am sure Peter Crouch is still capable of scoring a goal (Happy clappers will remind us all when it happens) but not any more capable than Sam Vokes and he won't be starting even if injuries curtail Wood or Barnes.

As for profits on the deal Wolves are due 25% on that figure.

But I find it difficult if not impossible to
think it is a good window.

Not in terms of strengthening the squad with some fresh blood.
How on earth can it be?

Not even a loan player.

Dyche talking up Crouch was to be expected.
What else could he say?

Good luck to Sam at Stoke and let's hope Crouch comes off the bench on Saturday
and scores the winner.

Take on board what Macca has listed but most if not all of what he has stated
hasn't really got much to do with the transfer window and bringing in new blood.

Really? I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not and i really hope you are. It's a shocker. After the summer window and a pointless chase (for the sake of being 500k short so i am very reliably told) of Jayrod we go and do the exact same again. All eggs in one basket chasing a player whose club have zero intention of selling and for their own very good reasons. Yet we put in 4 bids apparently nowhere near their valuation. Window after window this happens.
On its own the Crouch deal is very meh but when put alongside no other incomings it is utterly embarrassing. We end up with a net transfer profit when we have already been putting square pegs in round holes this season and the squad is painfully thin. We don't even make use of the loan system. Money that will never see the light of day again and certainly won't be reinvested if the last 3 windows are anything to go by.
I can't fathom out why we always we leave it until the last day to chase one player in a totally futile manner. I am beginning to be convinced there is no intention to buy and it is just to show something to the fans.
No investment in the future with good up and coming players..average age of the squad has gone up again today in what is already the oldest squad in the Prem.
The only bright side is the contract extension of McNeil.
Injured lads getting back to fitness? Brady one game..injured again. Gudmundsson a couple of games then we dont see him for weeks despite him being close 2 weeks before. Defour never fully fit.
One injury to our strikers and we are relying on Vydra because Crouch can't play a full game...and we know what Dyche thinks of him.

It beggars belief. We deserve a hell of a lot better.
