Saw it when it was on in November.
Like that program that was on about the holocaust last week, this is in the "must watch" category.

Just to add to the threads above.
I doubt many will want to watch it on a Saturday evening, but if you haven't seen it then you must record it.
(I have it saved from last November. Incredible how they've put it together thanks to modern technology)

Re: Film - They Shall Not Grow Old
had already read some of the accounts of some of those survivors but was still moved to tears a couple of times.
i always wonder how i would behave in that situation. i thought the most thought provoking part was when the soldiers were talking about what we would now call 'post trauma..' etc. i suppose you really have to live it to understand it.

Re: Film - They Shall Not Grow Old
This inter-generational virtue-competition b0llocks needs to die a quick death for the sake of the country at large. This conception you have of 'a young person' - probably irreverent, indifferent, lacking in respect, idle etc. etc. - exists only in your own mind as a means to suppress your own sodding insecurities. Generally speaking the current youth are far more respectful, sincere and attentive than the idiotic edge-lord generation I grew up as a part of just fifteen years ago, many of whom now look for other folks to blame for their own miserable lives and unrealised ambitions.
Re: Film - They Shall Not Grow Old
So basically what you are saying is that the 'edge-lord generation' have redeemed themselves by teaching their offspring the error of their ways?Spiral wrote:Generally speaking the current youth are far more respectful, sincere and attentive than the idiotic edge-lord generation I grew up as a part of just fifteen years ago, many of whom now look for other folks to blame for their own miserable lives and unrealised ambitions.
Re: Film - They Shall Not Grow Old
Not sure we taught them anything per se. I think they probably looked at my generation using the word 'faggot' pejoratively and unironically, cringed, and decided to respect one another lest they be like us. This is all very broad-brush, of course, but generally speaking they tend to be better people than we were at the same age, and I don't buy the idea that younger folks don't care for history.

Two letters spring to mind,,,PCSpiral wrote:Not sure we taught them anything per se. I think they probably looked at my generation using the word 'faggot' pejoratively and unironically, cringed, and decided to respect one another lest they be like us.
I'm certainly not putting the youth of today down as though they are all total scrotes, absolutely not.
It's just my interactions with the younger set through my job where most of them seem to be disinterested with most things that occurred before they turned 5 year old.
