How anyone debate whether this is a penalty or not is really beyond me.
The ref and linesman are an absolute f’in disgrace.

Thought it was a penalty.
Credit to Barnes though he sets-up Wood with a for a good chance, forces a point-blank save from McCarthy - maybe could have done better with that. Hits the bar with a very good effort and then the penalty. We haven't had one for nearly two seasons. It's a relegation six-pointer - last kick of the game and after all that's gone on in the previous 93 minutes he's the calmest man in the stadium and slots it away comfortably.
Have a feeling we'll be looking back on this as a pivotal moment in our season.

Re: Barnes
doesnt matter how soft it looks, there was contact, the ball had gone away and the keeper came flying in.
In modern day football that is a penalty even if Barnes was anticipating and looking for the contact.
Tuesday against Man U was the same; soft as hell, a little tug and Lingaard was down, PEN.

I think it was a pen. I've only seen it once, in real time at the match, but I had a really good view. Barnes is looking for/expecting the contact, so is all set to go down. When it comes, it's much softer than he anticipates so he looks to go down more theatrically than needed. BUT all players do that these days and it's still a pen!

He’d have had to move his foot backwards not to be caught by the keeper.

That’s the thing. It’s not just the ref. Two officials have a clear unobstructed view of the incident, and yet they still get it incredibly wrong. When you compare that to the Lingard thing the other day, it really makes you wonder about the integrity of the game.

Re: Barnes
I thought it was a penalty at first - and having seen it on the replay, I can't believe how much of a penalty. OK, there's a school of thought that says there are far too many penalties given in the Premier League and in football worldwide, because nowadays it seems that the slightest touch counts as a foul. Maybe if Anthony Taylor had been reffing on Tuesday, we would have won the game and Lingard would have been booked for diving. Teah, right.
Whether it should be a penalty or not - and it should - there is no doubt that every other team in this league would get a penalty if a goalkeeper or any other player lies down in front of the forward to get in his way. There is no suggestion at all that the forward is at fault, to the extent of being booked, because he didn't jump out of the way of the leg that was impeding him. Maybe the rule should be changed, who knows? But it's not Taylor's job to change it.

Is it because you think that McCarthy had stopped there? He didn't. He was sliding away from goal, towards Barnes, and he kept on sliding.BurnleyFC wrote:Sky Sports reporter didn’t think it was.

There's a school of thought that says that if (as a defender) the forward pushes the ball past you, but your momentum takes you forward so you are in between the ball and the player, then it is entirely the forward's responsibility to jump out of your way; and the referee should not give a penalty if you run into him and fall over. Nobody in football (apart from Anthony Taylor) believes that. Have you seen any Premier League penalties this season? Before today, there have been 66. And I bet a good half of them have been for relatively light taps on the ankle or lower leg where the player has made no attempt to stay on his feet; and some of them have been referred to the Diving Committee which has confirmed that it isn't the forward's responsibility to dodge if the defender is in his way. Zaha? Salah? Have you seen any of their many penalties?

So we can establish that
A/ they were on the Turf
B/ they've seen a camera angle (bareing in mind the Premier league holds the rights for distribution world wide, so essentially its the same cameras in use regardles)

No need ffs.

cricket had a kid a bit ago and he made everyone aware of it (it was a bloody adorable affair, to be fair - congratulations and all that, CFC!) and now his missus is preoccupied with raising a child and (understandably) ignoring him so he's scrambling for the attention of his internet friends because he's feeling lonely.

Re: Barnes
Match of the day proves it was a penalty the pundits said so as well, I agree it would have been soft but keeper does not get or touch the ball and contact is made so has to be penalty.
Would not like it against us but then did not like the ones that tarks gave away or the lingard collapse after slight touch by Hendrick, but all given.
