It would have been soft????pureclaret wrote:Match of the day proves it was a penalty the pundits said so as well, I agree it would have been soft but keeper does not get or touch the ball and contact is made so has to be penalty.
Would not like it against us but then did not like the ones that tarks gave away or the lingard collapse after slight touch by Hendrick, but all given.

Why soft? It’s stonewall!pureclaret wrote:Match of the day proves it was a penalty the pundits said so as well, I agree it would have been soft but keeper does not get or touch the ball and contact is made so has to be penalty.

Playing for contact? There’s a six foot plus man led right in front of him and he’s running, how does he avoid contact?blake's wand wrote:Expect it to be given, but Barnes was 100% playing for the contact and left leg trailing before he was brought down.

Think some posters are trying to be controversial!

Re: Barnes
I think some people are confused by the fact that he’s fallen over like a normal person rather than a Premier League striker. His body immediately starts to go down and his arms go down to break his fall as his body bends. Normally you’d expect a striker’s body to go rigid and somehow defy physics and go upwards, while at the same time the arms go in the air entirely contrary to natural instinct.

Spot on - yet we have posts comparing it to the Pope / Silva penalty where he got the smallest of contacts which triggered a decent attempt at the world high jump record.martin_p wrote:I think some people are confused by the fact that he’s fallen over like a normal person rather than a Premier League striker. Re: Barnes
Personally, with hindsight, I think Barnes should have ended McCarthy’s career, or worse, by kicking him violently instead of reacting in a split second to try and avoid being tripped.
Those saying Barnes went down on purpose have never played the game.

Re: Barnes
Maybe the problem is that refs have seen too much of the theatrics and think that is the norm and the normal performance of Barnes whose body goes with gravity and his arms go down to protect his fall is simulation?
If so they need to go on refresher courses to understand the physics and anatomy of falls.
I must say law enforcement would be much easier if Lingard's reaction were the norm. Copper puts hand on shoulder, suspicious character hits the deck, cuffs on arrest made job done.

Indeed. On the one hand we have slight touch induced paraplegia; and on the other we have an attempt to avoid serious injury after being clattered in to - it appears paraplegia gets penalties and honesty doesn’t.

Re: Barnes
Definite penalty , but what a weak/poor assistant . The way Barnes screamed and swore inches from his face should of resulted in a sending off ( thankfully it didn't ) .

If it’s a foul by the keeper is it also a sending off

It's not it would only have been a yellow card due to law changes

Re: Barnes
Surely every single "pundit" (most of whom have played the game at the highest level) saying it's a stonewall pen tells us summut.
