The effect of a certain signing ...
I mentioned on another thread how a certain signing can lift the team - just as when we had Barton come on after his Rangers spell.
I have seen 90% of our fans berating Crouch but as soon as the board went up for him to run on when we had that corner the whole ground suddenly woke up and thought “we’re going to do something here”.
Crouch might not bag a goal all season but just in comparison with the Vokes substitution - he might have scored 10 but as fans I think we got used to “oh, here we go - Vokes is on again for last 10”. Crouch coming on for the last 10 had a whole different feel to it though right away.

Re: The effect of a certain signing ...
I think it was more about the timing. Bringing Crouch on just as we got a corner and were pressing hard for that goal. He definitely helped raise the atmosphere.
I also think it's to be expected with a new signing. Although most fans were not particularly happy with the business done, there is no way in this world they wouldn't give the lad plenty of encouragement and a fair crack of the whip.

Remember Wells coming on? He didn’t do that to the crowd- Barton has the same effect after the Rangers trio.burnleymik wrote:I think it was more about the timing. Bringing Crouch on just as we got a corner and were pressing hard for that goal. He definitely helped raise the atmosphere.

90% of people posting on here might have berated the signing. That wasn’t the feeling in the fanzone or from the crowd when he was announced. Don’t judge the publics real feeling from the few who post on message boards 10000 times. In fact I’d argue you might want to be more suspicious of it!

I don't think it was anything like 90%. What the majority of people were annoyed about was the overall transfer window and that happened to overlap with discussing Crouch.

Surely just because posters recognise that it’s a terrible signing they are still allowed to support the player? Is that not what being a supporter is all about?

I am 100 percent behind Crouch. And I love the guy. And when he came on the crowd were buzzing. But a lot of that was partly because of who he is and not how good he now is and partly because of the novelty of it.
Everyone hopes he will do the business. But its a crackers signing. Especially in our position.

Fortunately you have no clue about football.
