Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
Im sorry, but if there were some sort of “liberal elite” that pulls all the strings, we wouldn’t have had austerity and the conditions which have led to people voting for Brexit. Everything happens within the set out process, and if anyone is bending the rules here it is Johnson, proroguing parliament. I feel sympathy with those leavers who feel let down, but the only people to blame are the Tories who have been in government the whole time, and not delivered.ClaretMoffitt wrote:The liberal elite are slowly but surely getting their way.
Working class people may as well not bother voting in future. If those at the top don't like their vote, they will just frustrate the process to the point of it never being enacted at all.
That may be absolutely fine with many on here, but one day it will bite them in their rear.

Then why wasnt it illegal when Major prorogued Parliament.AndrewJB wrote:It’s the press that are a kind of rudder for British public opinion; playing down Johnson’s transgressions, lies, and outright refusal to even comment on certain issues, while playing him up as a kind of “people’s champion” and misrepresenting the political situation as the people’s own elected representatives and judiciary as against the people. If Corbyn or Swinson had prorogued Parliament, the Daily Mail would be falling for revolution.
Its happened before, never been taken to court, never been classed as illegal.
The outcome today was never in doubt, you just had to look at the background of the judges making the ruling.
This idea that Parliament is sovereign is a real twist on fact. The people elected the government, they should be allowed to govern. Parliament is there to hold the government to account, and debate policies. They arent there to take over, not without the say of the people. They have always had the power to vote no confidence in the government, they've always had the power to force a GE, but that isnt what this is about. It's about neutering the Government. Leaving them in power, but stopping them from doing their job.
That is the biggest slap in the face to democracy.
What you also dont seem to understand, is that the people see through all this bullshit. Leavers, and the majority of Remainers who arent blinkered, see this as just another attempt to overturn the referendum. Those that orchestrated it will pay the price at the ballot box, if they ever have the guts to go to the country.

"The prime minister’s advice to Her Majesty [ to suspend parliament] was unlawful, void and of no effect. This means that the Order in Council to which it led was also unlawful, void and of no effect should be quashed.
“This means that when the royal commissioners walked into the House of Lords [to prorogue parliament] it was as if they walked in with a blank sheet of paper. The prorogation was also void and of no effect. Parliament has not been prorogued.”
Incredible, this scumbag actually lied and deceived the Queen to unlawfully suspend Parliament, he should immediately be arrested.

This is it in a nutshell
"The reality is plain. A prime minister with no electoral mandate or majority tried to unlawfully suspend parliament."
You back that, and you've really got to think about were you stand on democracy going forward.

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
You're wrong. People elect MPs, and MPs then form governments. A group of MPs in the house who command a majority can form a government. If the leader of that government, for whatever inexplicable reason, decides to no longer work with (let's say for example out of thin air) twenty-one MPs, and this takes away his ability to command a majority in the house, then that leader is no longer able to lead effectively. The house still operates as before, and if enough MPs within it form an alternative majority then legislation can be passed. Ideally this group would form a government, but there's no rule saying they have to.Colburn_Claret wrote:Then why wasnt it illegal when Major prorogued Parliament.

This is great news for our democracy and for holding our govt to account but from a Brexit perspective it doesnt change the fact that you Brexiteers still have every chance of getting a No Deal Brexit.
It just means that you are going to have to do it by a democratic way by getting majority support specifically for No Deal either through a GE or 2nd Ref.

You can claim a victory if you want, but the only reason this came about is that a government with no majority tried to shut down parliament so it couldn't be scrutinised.
