As you’re boasting that “the people decided” then it’s probably best to remind you that on 8th June 2017 they decided again, this time to trust Teresa May to lead this.Jakubclaret wrote:We did on the 23rd June 2016 I'm not sure what else you could be referring to?

Remind us all again how many times we lost votes at the EU.Jakubclaret wrote:We hardly had any control over our future before, what a sad pitiful excuse we've become, reduced to the abnormal concept of waiting for the approval of 27 other members for a wish to be granted, if that doesn't tell you something isn't right nothing ever will.
Was it something like 50 times out of 2,500.
Not to mention our veto, which of course we will most likely lose if we are actually stupid enough to leave briefly and then apply to rejoin.
Can you incidentally name anything that we voted against that has affected your life?

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
The question I keep asking myself is this:
Is Brexit in any form that is on the table, whether it is May's deal or No deal WTO rules, anything like what was promised by the Leave campaign? If it is not (which it isn't) then why the f#ck are we as a country proceeding with this charade and continuing because its "the will of the people" - It's not the will of the people is it...? anyone who claims it is must be seriously deluded.
For the record, and I have confessed my sins and explained my reasons for doing so previously on this forum, I voted Leave. I did not vote for no deal Brexit under WTO rules, nor did I vote for May's version of leave.
As a pragmatist, I would suggest that revoking Article 50 would be a sensible option. We then return to the status quo in regards to EU membership and as a country get our political act together (hopefully!), and rid the Tory's of May; rid Labour of Corbyn and have a General Election where the parties can outline their position in relation to the EU and we can then democratically decide, with an informed view (what we were all lacking previously) how we want our country run - please dont give me this "ahh, but we had a democratic vote and we voted to leave" read my comments above for what I think about that.

Independent international trade policy
Independent agricultural and fisheries policy
Independence from European Court of Justice
Independent immigration policy
If yes then you voted for May's deal because that is what it will deliver.

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
Nope, none of the above directly. I admit I was influenced by social media campaigns which attacked immigrants - things like "Eastern Europeans are getting free social housing" etc, when I was faced with housing issues myself; I took the £350M bus message with a pinch of salt, but still I was influenced by it because I am on long term NHS care; taking control of our sovereignty was an issue too, but what exactly is control - do we actually have it now or will we? (genuine question!); I partially wanted to f#ck over David Cameron too and my vote was partially a protest vote against the Tory leadership and in all honesty I never expected Leave to win, how wrong was I eh, hence my wish for pragmatism now.Mala591 wrote:Did you vote for:

May's deal is as done as she is, in fact her deal is one mighty nail in her coffin that half of the Tory party will gladly knock in next week.
The EU played a blinder, they ensured the Brexit process will survive beyond May, the best you can hope for is the softest of Brexits, a Brexit-in-name-only: including a customs union, the other remaining options being no Brexit or second referendum/general election, both of which result in no brexit.
You may also get the added bonus of watching the Tory party split in half next week when May resigns/is kicked out.

But again, I don't think that was the point being made.
Its more to do with the decisions we have (or more likely haven't!) made that got us to this stage.
Glad we got there with the rest of the comment though.

Here are the options for next week's indicative votes...
Revoke Article 50
Second Referendum
Deal + Customs Union
Deal + Customs Union + Single Market
FTA
This is AWESOME! Basically you either revoke Article 50, have a second referendum or become a colony of the EU.
Oh how the mighty have fallen!

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
A standard free trade agreement for me as it is clearly what the country voted for. It will obviously be something much softer that the remainer HOC wants. The closest we will now get to a proper brexit is May's deal unfortunately.
I assume that the soft options will fail on all of the key criteria of taking back control of our money, laws, borders etc.
I dare any MPs from leave constituencies to vote for revocation or a referendum. Everyone that does will be toast at the next GE.

Taking back control has become giving up all control.

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
Of course it will unless the Tories have a 3 line whip when it might be close. However don't think they will be binding and may will use it as 1 last chance in a 4th MV on her deal.
If a CU and particularly CU plus single market gets through to be the actual final outcome there will be a
GE to try to stop it. The tories will go for a free trade agreement and labour a GU. The FTA will win as Corbyn as PM is not viable. Bring on tbe GE imo.

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
ERG will bring down the government if they don't get their way.
Only way to avoid that is to revoke Article 50.
And that doesn't save the government, but does save the country from a "No Deal" brexit.
That is the way I'm reading it, but its a pretty fluid situation to put it mildly.

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
In all honesty, I have no idea. I wouldn't p!ss on most politicians if they were on fire, there are some exceptions of course but those who I have a liking for usually start out with a good ideology but then end up corrupted by the system of politics in this country. I only mentioned removing the current leaders of the main parties as a suggestion for a "fresh" start if that could ever be possible. If it be your will wrote:Why do you want to turn the Conservative Party and Labour Party into centrist parties? There's already two of those to choose between - Lib Dems and The Independent Group. It'd hardly be democratic if the choice at the next election was between Phillip Hammond, Liz Kendall, Chuka Umunna, and Vince Cable. It'd be fine for those who walk around thinking 'Ah, yes, everything is pretty much as it should be. Let's carry on as we are.'
But who would you vote for if you actually wanted real change?

Unless I'm massively misreading this, the ERG will risk a Corbyn government rather than accept any other Brexit plan that isn't theirs.

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
Well yes, I do see your point. Although we’ll look even more foolish if our parliament spends a couple of months rejecting the deal only to conclude it’s the best deal!taio wrote:I would have thought the point would be to get clarity on which option or options the HoC favours most when considering those options alongside each other.
The fact it’s a free vote will make it interesting, assuming all sides respect that.
