Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
How would that get through Parliament summit?
And you cannot have a referendum ignoring the wishes of 48% of the population.
However much anyone shouts, that is not going to happen.

Its not ignoring anyone. Just vote no. If the people say no then we find another way to leave.
Also she gets it through as the alternative to revocation when the EU try to push us to revoke by saying its no deal

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
If May is going to put forward her Withdrawal Bill a 4th time and bolt on Clarke's CU option to the Political Declaration, (which is what I said) then that means that it will have Cabinet support, and it's the other way round. It means that hose in the cabinet who don't back it will have to resign, but I suspect that if May does add the Clarke proposal to the Withdrawal Agreement then she would have to allow a free vote.summitclaret wrote:If any of the cabinet vote for a CU they will have to resign. They might but in doing so they will see the end of the tory party.
Edit: Can't type fast enough. As I was typing Sky News were suggesting that May could well do what I was suggesting in order to bring back WA next week wit CU added in, (though of course they didn't mention whether it would be Whipped or not)

Yes it is.

And that second figure is the key one. If we were to have another EU election I think turn out would be much greater amongst those who voted to stay in the EU.AndrewJB wrote:Twenty-seven percent of a thirty-six percent turnout suggests not.

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
Please not a General Election. The very thought of Mogg, Gove or Johnson as PM should be enough to send shivers down our spines.
Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
10% is a huge vote for a single-issue protest party at a general election. And the 90% who voted Tory, Labour, Liberal, etc may have other reasons for not voting UKIP.Lancasterclaret wrote:General Elections they have never won more than 10%.
And that was when Farage was in his prime. He's certainly not there now.

Or Corbyn for that matter.
GE might not settle anything. Thats why it should be the absolute last resort behind a PV.
Extension plus customs unions plus deal is the way to go.

There are now UKIP, Veterans for Brexit, the Brexit Party, that "For Britain" Party plus the Conservatives plus others.dsr wrote:10% is a huge vote for a single-issue protest party at a general election. And the 90% who voted Tory, Labour, Liberal, etc may have other reasons for not voting UKIP.
10% would be a hell of an achievement now, but would translate into 0 seats.
Where is UKIP running everything in the council?
Where is the local party control?
Come off it dsr, live in the real world

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
As mentioned though - think it was LC... I had to laugh when I read on the BBC News about Johnson 'backing the PM', by changing his mind and voting for her deal. Absolute laughable. Has he EVER done something unless it benefits him on a personal level?
He must know that all this, "Very painful" crap about supporting her to make sure the country gets out of the EU, was complete poppycock, and we can see through that he did it and one reason only - because she said she's step down, allowing him to go for leadership PM.
The guy is a complete joke.

Very dangerous game. If May resigns it’s likely to be a much more pro brexit mp that takes over. Just because May resigns does not guarantee an election either. Could get even more interesting and devisive soon.

Joanna Cherrys Plan is actually a fairly good shout. One of the amendments for Monday I think.
If no deal, then revoke, set up an enquiry into what to do (so we all know) and then 2nd ref.

Some government sources are suggesting that might be the plan. Let Letwin decide what it wants then effectively have a run off between that (probably customs union) and May’s deal.South West Claret. wrote:4th time lucky I say...or on the other hand

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
Still think the lawyers will prevent a referendum about a previous referendum that hasn’t been enacted. Cameron blew millions on a vote that only a few mp’s were desperate for, 9m on Leaflet defending remain, and the whole remain argument started about a bus organised by a few brexiteers who never had a right to promise anything, they were simply not in a position to do anything other than suggest where money could be redirected.Lancasterclaret wrote:Joanna Cherrys Plan is actually a fairly good shout. JC will fancy it (in his delusion) as a Nationilist he wants brexit, and believes he has the support for an election win... personally think he’d get a pretty big backlash from his fellow Nationilist traditional support, even if theTory’s give in to an election they are not required to instigate for another couple of years. It’s been a mess all along.
I think the remain cause could just have just as easily forced a much harder brexit as kept the remain option open. As someone who believed in parliament pulling together and sorting out a compromise 3 years (or lifetimes) ago I’m disgusted with the lot of them. I’m not pro May’s deal but l’m certainly not for even more time and multi £m’s and years debating it while the country continues to go down the pan.
the lot of them should be ashamed of themselves.

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
That boat sailed months ago. It's just taking a while for it to sink in for some people. What leavers (and remainers tbf) should have been looking at for the past 12 months is how to achieve the best deal. But anyone looking at this realistically would conclude that it's been more important for leavers to engage in this than remainers, since so long as they don't come up with a workable plan, we keep "remaining".Damo wrote:Enough is enough.

Statutory Instrument vote which passed recently changed the leave date (under UK law-it was already international law before the HoC vote on Wednesday) to 12th April.Damo wrote:Enough is enough.

But the whole thing is in Europe’s dictate again now. Several EMP’s have suggested there needs a major breakthrough for any longer stay following the one granted.Spiral wrote:Statutory Instrument vote which passed recently changed the leave date (under UK law-it was already international law before the HoC vote on Wednesday) to 12th April.
It is if anything a little more likely that no deal will be the result than before this vote.

Re: Brexit: The Naked Truth
What price now on the EU leveraging the uncertainty and refusing an extension without a GE or PV? If they're as prepared as they are making out, it would certainly put the pressure on the UK to do one, the other or revoke.
Personally, I think if we don't go for the customs union now it's a monumental sh;tshow more than ever (if that's possible).
Isn't this exciting?

That's been the EU plan all along. Basically we have to do what we are told. for example its confirmed we are completely under the control of the unelected EU and it feels like

Personally I'm hoping for a General Election. This will give all voters, remain or leave, the opportunity to show their MP how they feel about what's gone on in Parliament. The man in the street's idea of what representation means has taken a big knock and now is the time to let their MP know.
By man in the street I don't mean all the so called experts on here.

Yeah, but he wants whatever keeps NI and UK exactly the same.
That could be "No Deal" as well, but its the first time they have stated that EU membership also works for them as Unionists.
Big step. Actually no, huge, huge step.
DUP + everybody else outvotes Government (assuming one switcher)

Very depressing, and whoever is running the leave campaign needs to get this thing shut down sharpish before it loses any more support.

Maybe the time that the PM realises that she cannot do anything more to save herself from going down in history as the Prime Minister who let down 17. 4 million people will be the time she concedes to a General Election with a new Conservative leader.
While the PM could not have done anything more to get her deal through, and will be remembered for that, history I think will see her as incompetent

If Ukip supporters are really coming out with stuff like this, and putting TR on a pedestal, then many "leavers", (and there are a lot of very reasonable ones) , might start to question the company they are in.
