Paul Ince Seems to Have Forgotten His Managerial Career

Post by TheFamilyCat » Mon Feb 04, 2019 12:09 pm

Seems to think he was actually quite good at it.

He’s a bitter bitter man is Ince

Can’t believe Real Madrid and United are not knocking down his door after the miracles he worked at Macclesfield 15 years ago - what more does he need to do to prove himself ?

I understand what he is trying to say though, and to an extent I agree with him. OGS is doing well for now, it's how he reacts and deals with it when it goes wrong that is how he'll be judged.

Really ?
Why does he think his arrogant look at me self named “governor” approach to football management would have worked any better at United than he did at his other failed attempts
....to me he has a lot of the arrogance of Mourinho without any of the success. I doubt that would have gone down well with the United players at all.

Of course OGS will have much tougher tests but in this league doing what United have done in his time in charge is pretty rare whoever the manager or team.

To be fair to Ince, if I must, the claim that Mark Hughes could have done equally as well is equally as laughable.

Yes, really. Removing the toxicity of Mourinho in the club and replacing him with anyone with a Man Utd pedigree such as stated in the article would have likely garnered similar results to what OGS has achieved - its the honeymoon period. It just so happens that OGS is a likeable chap, unlike Ince, and that also helps in the short term. Like I said, its when it goes wrong that he'll be tested. I genuinely would love to see OGS do well at Utd though, he would be good for the game longer term.

Another decent player who was a shite manager.
Unfortunately he has passed the arrogance on to Tom who actually believes hes a decent player not a 5 min trier.

Agree with you 100% on the situation post OGS and things could easily get sticky for him. Not sure he is the long term answer also....but Ince was never the short term answer and think he’s being disrespectful and arrogant suggesting he amongst many others would have had the same impact....Scholes and a few might have done well but not Ince.

Did well for a short while as a lower division manager with quick success at Macclesfield and two good spells at MK Dons. Had a 50% win rate in over 100 games at MK Dons (to put in to context Dyche had a 55% win rate in his two promotion seasons).

Never made it any higher and faded away quickly but he has done a lot better as a manager than the majority of ex top level players

Yes and also think that his managerial career has forgotten him.

To be fair, what he says is that he could have come in and made the team play better over the first ten games. He doesn't say that he would have been the answer long term, and he does say that the results of the first ten matches do not prove that Solskjaer will be the answer long term.

Have any of the "angry" players(Ince, Keane, etc) gone on to be good managers.
Souness would be the closest but as Ince is inferring about OGS he was gifted a start at Liverpool &
Rangers.

He wasn't quite as good at solving short-term problems as he suggests ...

i like Ince ....he's a throw back and has the oddest bedside manner and always makes me smile when i watch his punditry ( not because he is good but because of the way he moves about in his seat and smirks as though he is going to say something sophisticated but comes out with the most unsophisticated of comments and talks in a slightly disarming but harmless "I'm one of the lads" manner) .

He did pretty well at lower league management , and i agree with what he said about OGS

He was top top player - I once saw him Kells in Manchester in the 90s - beckoning women over to talk to him through one of his grunts - but I chatted to him about nout really and he was very friendly to be honest - I recall that I got a bit of vicarious attention off the lasses that evening through him until they realised i was just a hanger-on aswell and didn't know him from Adam

The self proclaimed “Guvnor” - wonder if he is going to update himself to “ex Guvnor” ?

On MOD does he ever finish a sentence without using the phrase 'know what I mean'.
