A sad little story, not always a bed of roses for footballers, injuries often around the corner, hope he has better luck in new career.

Re: ARTICLE: Hines hangs up his boots
I remember a game where he was stood on the sideline waiting to come on for ages, only for Howe to sit him back down. Felt sorry for him.

Reminiscent of Nahki wells at Arsene wengers last hurrah... That was painful to watch him coming on in the 90+ minute!Murger wrote:I remember a game where he was stood on the sideline waiting to come on for ages, only for Howe to sit him back down. Felt sorry for him.

Re: ARTICLE: Hines hangs up his boots
When Howe signed him I thought we got a good player with Stanislas as well but the two players really never cut it more so Zavron
Stanislas has a bigger thumbs up with the equalizer on the turf against fiddlers and a few games where he looked the deal seems to do ok for Eddie

Re: ARTICLE: Hines hangs up his boots
Because he plays his natural game which isn't based on crunching tackles and defending he is more effective. Dyche obviously wanted him to stay but I don't think he was settled in the grim North. I remember him saying how cold it was just after he signedLongside4evr wrote: Stanislas has a bigger thumbs up with the equalizer on the turf against fiddlers and a few games where he looked the deal seems to do ok for Eddie

Shows how far we have moved on in relatively short period of time.
There was a rumour that Hines was only signed so Junior Stanislas would join too and to keep him company.

I though he had something but he never progressed and it was no surprise when he left, good luck to him anyway.ClaretTony wrote:Zavon Hines forced to retire through injury just past his 30th birthday

Re: ARTICLE: Hines hangs up his boots
In his only two starts he turned in dreadful performances but the one thing I do remember was the pass to Jay Rod that got us the equaliser in the snow and ice against Peterborough.
Suffered a cruciate ligament injury at D&R and has never seemed to recover from that.

Re: ARTICLE: Hines hangs up his boots
I saw him a few times for chesterfield this season. One of their better players in the first half of the season but that's not saying much.
I think the retirement is as much down to mental /family problems than physical, probably more so. He was still capable - but inconsistent. Towards the end he only seemed to be able to play games near London.
Good luck to him. Hope whatever it is sorts itself out.

He's lasted longer than many others, but still goes to show its not always an easy way to earn a fortune as is so often imagined.

Good luck to him...he might not have been anywhere near the best but he made it as a professional footballer something which most people can only dream about.
