Fans at the match vs fans on the couch..

Post by SmudgetheClaret » Wed Feb 06, 2019 9:25 pm

I find it ridiculous that fans like myself who like to go to away games have to just accept rescheduled matches and kick off times to accommodate the TV companies ? yes it brings the in the cash but it's like they have no regard for how it can cock us up with work and travel costs ...

Sky Sports costs a fortune. Brings them in a lot of cash. Money talks.

I'd go further and say many clubs see fans as an inconvenience.

If they could simulate the atmosphere and generate the same TV revenue without the need to steward, police, accommodate and answer to a fan base then I think many clubs would.

I find it ridiculous too. I think the fixture list could at least restrictive these crazy kick off times to more local affairs.

You don't have to accept it. You can choose not to go.

I’m sure I read a while back that the reason for midweek games not being “local” games is because more people could miss a local midweek game than if it was at weekend.

I’ll see if I can find the article

Its not easy.

I've gone from home and away to just home (and missing more of them than I want to) due to kids and kids activities. I like watching them on tv at home, and like watching them at the turf.

But it must be massively frustrating for those who try to get the cheap train tickets or book time off work well in advance.

Try over here! Games are never fixed more than 2 weeks in advance and even then can be moved at short notice, a couple of days at times.

Cup games are treated with disdain and a Wednesday 5pm KO is not unusual

Admittedly, train fares are about a fiver at most unless its the other side of the country, so there isnt the same need to plan ahead... but it does mean free cancellation on booking.com is a godsend

should be linked to cheap train tickets being announced . no later alterations to fixtures after that date

My view is that the clubs themselves could do a lot more to support their away following - like Chelsea with that train. Free coaches etc.

There's quite a few fans in the stadium think they're at home on the couch.
