Can’t disagree with that too much other than up to the last 5 or 6 weeks when he has pretty significantly improved.

Don’t know the criteria for making the team as I doubt very much he is the worst centre forward given Huddersfield’s record up front this season but maybe it’s sonething to do with playing time or his price tag etc.

For that you'd surely have to have Morata an Lukaku in there too?

Just found the article. Apparently it takes into account certain stats depending on their position and then uses an algorithm to produce a score for each player.

Maybe being in a claret and blue shirt and playing in east Lancashire are both included in the algorithm !

To be fair he was pretty awful up to the last few weeks. How he can be possibly worse than the Huddersfield strikers who scored the first goal between the lot of them against us in January i’m not too sure.

Huddersfield don't have any strikers that meet their criteria of 15 starts to be included.

How can any striker who's scored 4 goals be one of the worst surely someone else could partner Benteke?

Talking of stats I was looking at this:
https://www.skysports.com/football/news ... with-stats

What's amazing is how highly Dwight McNeil rates for shots, assists, crosses and chances created when you consider how few games he's played.

If McNeil keeps playing as he is then I'm sure Wood will benefit and won't be in that XI come the end of the season.

How Wood is in there I don't know.

Have they not seen the lumps Huddersfield have upfront?

Given how cut adrift they are I reckon the current Huddersfield XI would be beaten by this 'worst XI'

Or perhaps they do, but their strikers are so poor that they don't get near enough the goal to be identified as strikers.

I’ve said this on till I’m blue in the face and I’ve even done a thread about it, but it’s not about Wood the individual, it’s all about Wood and Barnes in a partnership. Recently, Wood’s performances have been excellent and his link up play has caused all sorts of trouble for opposition defences. Quite frankly, I don’t give a toss what other people think about him… He is a very integral part of what we are trying to achieve with our current system.

It’s particularly a strange one because last season Woods goals per minute ratio was something like the 4th or 5th best in the league, among strikers

It's only based on this season (and must have been involved in 15 games which rules out players like Benteke).

Although, like others, I'd have thought the Huddersfield strikers would have been in there given Wood's recent upturn in form.

haha

LEFT-BACK: Gaetan Bong (Brighton)
He’s not great at tackling, he doesn’t create many chances and he loses the ball an awful lot. In late November, Chris Hughton belatedly remembered he had spent £9m on a left-back and brought Bernardo into the team; but now he has returned to his beloved Bong. They have not won a game he has started since October.

The tweet was nice too:

JER:
I’d rather spoon my eyes out than watch Gaetan Bong play in a blue and white shirt again

As with any other striker, he needs service - something that he has been starved of.

Yes, he has missed some gilt-edged chances but, he's probably our best striker at present.

Service! New balls! ;)

So they’ve looked at all the strikers in the league, which includes the Huddersfield front men who have between them, one single goal (against us of course  ) and decided Chris Wood is the man for the spot.

Whether or not you rate him, I can’t help but find that inclusion a little bit weird.

Saw someone on here say we needed to loan McNeil out  We are honestly so reliant on this man to take players on, and make forward runs on the ball.

It's almost as if the Huddersfield strikers haven't been considered for inclusion in this team for some reason.

If only someone could tell us what that reason was...

Backs up my point even further by highlighting a lazy flaw in the criteria.

Mounie: 14 starts, 7 sub appearances, 1 goal
Depoitre: 9 starts, 12 sub appearances, 0 goals
Kachunga: 8 starts, 3 sub appearances, 0 goals

These players don’t meet the number of starts, because none of them have been good enough to hold down a shirt.

Article clearly says "played in 15 games". Nothing about starting or subs appearances so it is odd that the Huddersfield "strikers" haven't been selected

Yeah, that appears to be an error in explaining the criteria because if you look at the source data on whoscored there are players with lower ratings and more than 15 appearances, including as substitutes, who should be included but aren't (such as Jeff Hendrick for example). All those included have more than 15 starts, so I conclude that only players with 15 starts or more have been included.

Should just be the Huddersfield team.

Wood gets flack but much better than he gets credit for.
