Che Adams £22 million - B'ham

Post by Paul Waine » Sat Feb 09, 2019 10:57 am

report in today's The Times: Adams' £22m price tag

Birmingham were initially quoting an asking price of £22m in talks with several Premier League clubs.

The highest of four offers was Burnley - £12m.

This could prove to be a miscalculation by B'ham. The EFL could interpret rejecting "such a significant cash injection as deliberately flouting its profit and sustainability rules...." "and trigger a points reduction next season."

B'ham will discover at an independent disciplinary commission this month whether they will be docked points this season for breaching the EFL's spending limits, the fear of which, ironically, was behind their decision to keep hold of Adams."

£22m is ridiculous and possibly exaggerated / paper talk. It’s around the cost of Maddison but bigger clubs were in for him.
Maybe we thought we were going to get him because of the EFL rules ?
Maybe if they get points deducted for this then our strategy was not that bad and Brum have badly misjudged this ?

Brum want £22m, we offered £12m, probably split the difference in the new window, £16 - 17m and he'll go, not necessarily to us though.

If they've got debt then surely they should be made to sell players.

Like usual tabloid reporting it probably would have been £22m including all clauses.

More like it'll be £15m + add ons such as international appearances, goals, should burnley stay up, etc, etc.

Remember Anthony Martial cost £65 million according to some chip wrappers. It was later found out that included bonuses such as world player of the year and that. I thank Man U can be safe they wont be paying that clause anytime soon.

If the guy/girl in the street gets into debt and can't keep up their repayments the bailiffs appear and seize your assets,it even happens with businesses, and yet football clubs are immune,if Brum aren't careful they'll end up as a basket case of a club, ala Bolton,Blackpool and others, you would have thought Portsmouth's demise would have proved a wake-up call for clubs to get their affairs in order, but seemingly it's had no affect.

Summer will come and if we’re still in this division we’re going to be “priced out” by some giant like Bournemouth. Said it before, I reiterate it.

Personally I don’t believe we were quoted £22m for him.

Because this is just the latest in a lot of figures I’ve seen for a start, and we were quoted a straight £22m we surely wouldn’t have bothered that late into the window in my opinion.

We’ve missed the boat here I think. We’ve been a bit cheap, and it’s cost us. Maybe we were hoping Birmingham were having to sell to satisfy the ffp rules and that’s why we went in low. And yeah, it was low.

Is he worth £22m? Dunno at the moment, but Andre gray went for 18 after 9 PL goals. A season in the PL with 15 goals scored and the answer would be yes I’d say.

I’d be happy with him here but I don’t think he will be with us now. Keeps scoring like he is doing and he will be snapped up for big bucks and big wages. Shame really, could’ve been us making a big profit in a couple of seasons.

Bidding nowhere near what a midlands club want for one of their key players that would improve us. Well I never.

Impossible to tell whether he’ll be able to make the step up regardless of how many he scores in the Championship. The majority fail. Vydra has yet to do so.

That and the fact he isn't/wasn't worth 22m.

Like the article says. They probably quoted a ridiculous figure to

A. Keep hold of their prized asset
B. If we were desperate, and he did go for that sort of figure, they would have got far, far more than he's worth.

The fact we made 4 bids on the last day for the in form player in the division below, who's now got 19 goals in 31 games, makes you wonder what the opening bid was, and what we were hoping to get him for.

That doesn’t really make sense as our strikers aren’t told to track back and every player on a football field is required to defend.

4 bids on deadline day alone, the final offer being 12m... makes you wonder what we started at, and what we thought we could get the hottest player in the league for.

Haha. Because he scored a hat trick against QPR? Maybe we didn’t pay the price because we didn’t think he’s worth £22m, and if that is the figure quoted then I agree because there is nothing to suggest that he is worth £22m.

Yes but season tickets are frozen again now, and thats the main thing, however our transfer kitty has taken a hit as a result.

Net profit of around 7m this window, so it's great to read, I'll bring a copy of the accounts with me to the Spurs game for you to read through. They are great viewing, some wouod say edge of your seat stuff.

£22m is the figure being quoted by the Times writer. Nowhere near £15m. Who knows? All we know is that we offered what we thought he was worth to us and it was less than what he was worth to Birmingham. Considering Birmingham’s financial position I think it’s fair to say that his worth to them was higher than his market value.

To be fair the business model has worked so far, it makes for a boring transfer window, and requires Dyche to work miracles yearly, but whilst we are where we are, I don't expect much to change.

The fee was agreed if we could loan back, once it was clear that we couldn’t negotiations were ended by Brum and no more bids were put forward. That was around 5pm

I get your point, but poor analogy if you mean Vydra has not made the step up. Vydra has yet to get enough time to prove/disprove his ability at this level.

I said a Vydra has yet to step up. Dyche sees him every day in training and his lack of minutes on the pitch would lead to the conclusion that he doesn’t think Vydra is quite ready to make the step up.

Had we bought Adams it’s highly unlikely he’d have featured much for the remainder of the season so I don’t think this signing would be the difference between staying up or going down this season. He’d have been signing as the 4th or 5th choice striker.
