West Indies vs England 3rd Test Saturday

Post by tiger76 » Sat Feb 09, 2019 3:36 pm

West Indies won toss and choose to bowl solid start from England 26-0 ,but Jennings has had 2 lives already dropped and then an LBW shout not reviewed when he'd have been plump, both in the same over.

Windies bowling superbly but the pitch is good so for once England might put on a decent total.

30/1. Jennings caught in the slips off an innocuous first ball loosener. Nothing changes.

How on earth has Jennings got back in the team. Looks like a walking wicket

Denley has stroke of luck caught behind off the glove, but the glove was off the bat.

Batting looks fragile, if they face a positive pace team.

That should ensure a couple get a century!

Pundits are slating Jennings, both those out in the Caribbean and those in the studio.

Thanks goodness Stokes and Buttler brought their A game today,a steady start and then the familiar clatter of wickets,Stokes riding his luck caught off a no-ball,top order still not convincing with the Ashes round the corner.

England all out in first innings for 277. Normal collapse losing 6 wickets in the mornings play. Come on Jimmy, take a few quick wickets!!

A great first over from Wood getting two wickets after Ali picked two up leaves the hosts on 59-4.

Windies A/O for 154.
Wood takes 5 of them.

Good lead. Here's hoping our batsmen can stay around long enough to make it count.

So England finally came to the party 2 tests late, still an issue with batting collapses though, big day tomorrow for Jennings in particular,if he doesn't post a score then he can kiss his Ashes hopes goodbye.

Shows the difference a proper fast bowler can make if only Wood had played earlier,Moeen among the wickets also, and just a word for Stuart Broad, what a catch.

Wood shows up the limitations of Broad and Anderson on overseas pitches where genuine, raw, real pace is required. I first saw Wood playing for Northumberland several years ago when he made 50 with the bat at Jesmond. Since then injuries have held him back and Root will have to learn not to overbowl him, he waited 21 overs before bringing him on yesterday!?
A good weekend for Mark Wood and Chris Wood!

Mark Wood will be effective in 4/5 over bursts bowling flat out,the pace is an asset but it's only helpful if you get the ball in the right area and make the batsman play,he will have to be managed carefully as sadly injuries have beset him throughout his career.

Denly has looked positive this morning. Good to see.

Hopefully it will set the middle order up with the lead we already have.

Looks like we're going to be needing a new opener for the Ashes then. No way we can pick Jennings against the Aussie pace attack.

Jennings was a bit unlucky to be out from that, delivery outside leg, hit his trousers well outside the line but somehow trickled back onto the stumps. Mind- an inform batter would've tickled that down to fine leg.

Denly 65 not out is playing himself into the Ashes team, good-bye and good night for Jennings, he's had many chances.

Denly gone for 69.

Currently 155/3
Lead of 278

Root could do with a big score here.

325-4 at the close,Root unbeaten on 111 and Stokes on 29,lead of 448,England have vastly improved in this test, but Holder's absence and Paul succumbing to injury, make this a hollow victory assuming it is a victory.

Important runs for Denly,Buttler another good 50,and a ton for the skipper, just a shame it's in a dead rubber.

Close of play, 325/4
Root putting his feet up on 111.
Another Nelson. :)

He needed that ton though.
Two practice matches and we're into the real thing.

England declare on Root's (soft) dismissal 361-5 (Stokes might be a bit miffed on 48 no).
WI need 485 to win. I wonder if Wood will be on early? Maybe just 4 overs each from Jimmy & Broad first.

Dropped catch off Broads bowling. Could be over by tea at this rate if England play smart

Jimmy definitely got his mojo working in the first 2 overs. Fairly straight forward dropped slip catch by Butler off Broad now too or 10-3 would be the score.
