Jimmy Dunne

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Sat Feb 09, 2019 3:36 pm

Bags for Sunderland away at Oxford.

Looks like hes flying again. Looking like a great signing now. Going down that route could really pay off.

Youth system definitely on the mend. Great to see.

Good of us to spot then. If we did it ourselves Man U and co would steal them, as they do often do. It’s the way of things.

Yes. The top clubs take the cream but can only handle so many.

Man U bagged him off, like they did with McNeil because either they didn't see the full potential, or they couldn't be bothered working with him and waiting for that potential to fully develop. We're picking up quite a lot of these young lads who are being discarded by top clubs who can't be assed working with them to see where they could go and our under 23's and our under 18's are littered with them. Some will still not make it, but some ultimately will and it's us as a club who should be credited with spotting their hidden talents, taking them under our wing and working hard to make it shine.

For every Dunne and McNeil there's a Renny Smith and a Luke Hendrie...

That's absolutely true Macca and always will be. There will always be some (in truth the majority) who will never be good enough, but we're in a position where we can keep working with them and wait and see which they are.

I really like the look of Jimmy Dunne, and he seems to shine wherever he goes on loan.

If we go down, which is a real possibility, I think he should be given a proper go with us next season.

If we go down we'll flog Tarky. Dunne will replace him

Doesn't Gibson prefer left side?
Anyhow I meant in the squad, if not necessarily in the first eleven.

Absolutely, we can't have people thinking every young lad released by the big 6 will be able to be polished up. We need to find some ourselves and bring them right through.

Although it is nice to see more Burnley lads CHOOSING Burnley Over the likes of Blackbirn and Preston etc.

It's easy getting players to a decent standard at 15/16. It's the next big step to get them to adult football standard that's hard.

If we stay up then we will need to make a decision or two in central defence.

Obviously, Mee and Tarky are first choice and will remain so barring ridiculous offers for either. The issue is that we will be stocked with Gibson, Long and Dunne after that. It will be hard to justify that many central defenders in a Premier League squad, especially when they can all justifiably perhaps feel they should be getting games.

Perhaps Dunne will get a loan in the Championship for a season and we continue on with the four we have, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see one of Long or Gibson be sold and Dunne brought into the fold either.

The top clubs are on a different planet to us. They have a youth system to produce players of the calibre of Hazard, Salah, Silva, De Bruyne. That’s why they have so many young players on their systems. To try find that one special gem. I think it’s brilliant they do. For teams like us it’s perfect. They learn the winning mentality and work with top class coaches and facilities.

I wouldn’t say the can’t be assed though. Players like Mee, Keane, Trippier are not good enough for the teams they left.

We can have him in the squad without having to count him just like McNeil. So we could have 27 players capable of being in the 18 on match days
Oops correction Jimmy was 21 last October so next season he would have to be one of the 25 if in the squad

Nonsense to say Man couldn't be ar*ed, like everyone else they need to make a call on whether that player is going to be eventually good enough to play for the club. I'd still say it's too early to judge whether McNeil or Dunne have the potential to be in a squad chasing the premier league title and competing for the champions league. They're looking to bring through players like Rashford, who could be an asset in the first team squad.
