Re: Bong
The booing was not racist it was a case of being on Jay Rods side and the usual booing of players that have come under the spotlight for various reasons! Whatever colour the player he would have got booed for upsetting one of Burnleys favourite sons.

Embarrassed by what people shout at a football match! you must be a very sensitive soulpushpinpussy wrote:I appreciate the majority of posters on this forum don’t travel away with the Clarets. For whatever reasons. However yesterday Bong was booed every time he camr near the away fans and he was constantly called every name under the sun by our less intelligent supporters. Just because racism was not being chanted in a song doesn’t make it right. A lot of you on here who don’t attend games anymore and still stuck in the 80’s appear to be justifying it. It was embarrassing and it’s wrong.

Pussy, if you are embarrassed by what those naughty, less intelligent people were shouting at a football match, may I suggest you stop going to watch football matches and take up something like knitting.

The title of the post was about booing. Anyone is entitled to boo anyone at a football match in my opinion. If there is genuine racism that should be punished but the booing of Bong is not to do with the colour of his skin.paulatky wrote:Yorkshireclaret if you read the post it was not the booing

Not every action in life is connected to an ism or a phobia!
It is natural to Boo a player you don’t like and that is regardless of any other reason
Bong gets booed because he tried to wrong Rodriquez no other reason
Brighton are becoming tragic

Re: Bong
It's a tricky one.
On the one hand there's nothing wrong with booing a player we don't like, and Bong deserves it if he deliberately tried to trash the reputation of a fellow professional.
But no-one in the media, nor in the gaggle of bigoted and opinionated moral judges, needs any encouragement to point a sneering finger at Burnley, the grubby, backward hub of racism as they see it.
So do we enjoy our football and stand up for what we believe to be right...or pipe down so no-one can call us racist?
The obvious solution is for Brighton to get relegated, so we never have to play that bunch of spoilt children again and let them wallow in their own blancmange of hypocritical political correctness.
And it'd be good if Chris Hughton got a job at Everton or Chelsea, because he's too good for them.

Boo some exrovers player like Jordan Rhodes say and that ok. Boo at player like bing and instantly it’s because of the colour of his skin, nowt to do with him being a tit at all is it. Implying racism where there isn’t any is daft and in itself is more racist then anything. Stop the world please.

Re: Bong
How condescending of you. Almost all of the vilest and extreme racist, sexist and homophobic stuff I have ever read or heard has been, originally at least, from the mouths or pens of highly intelligent and educated people. Most of the phrases and statements made by the masses (I wouldn't glorify myself by trying to make a determination of how intelligent or otherwise they may be) are mere regurgitation of things they hear or see on the internet. Racism exists in every nation on Earth. It is espoused by people of all races, it is used by leaders in every racial group. Personally, I know black people I like a lot, black people who I am ambivalent about and black people I don't like. Just as I know people of west Asian descent, east Asian descent, white British descent or even Americans who fit into each of those niches.pushpinpussy wrote:... by our less intelligent supporters. ...
Why, with your superior attitudes and intelligence, you haven't moved over to support the Nobenders who also believe themselves superior, who knows.

Re: Bong
It's not racist booing. Also Bong made the whole situation worse with his post FA Enquiry comments about Rodriguez and Rodriguez 'apology' because 'he knows what he did'. This elicited a reply from Rodriguez that his apology was for having made a gesture in the first place and caused all the furore. Search smelly Bong's tweets back to May last year (he doesn't Tweet much won't take long) and then you'll see what I think was the catalyst to further fuel the fire of this situation.
The Brighton fans I know do realise this, and know that it's not racist booing, and one of those used to Head of Football at Brighton. Hughton needs to just STFU as well.

Just the son been tried for racism to be fair there.
But not a good look that both have been charged. But its one (or two) out of sizeable crowd and I think it was reported by other Burnley fans? (not sure about that, but a big positive if so)
Don't get why they couldn't just leave it at the booing.

As it's yet to be proven, not sure how much we can discuss this.
But more generally, how do you go about proving this sort of thing, unless there's a recording there as with Salah at West Ham?

Nothing wrong with booing but if these allegations are true it is not only embarrassing, but also weakens the argument that there is no racial element behind the booing.
Fair play to the Burnley fan(s) who did report this.

there are sadly, in general, some folk who think racist, homophobic, sectarian chanting etc is hilarious - until they are pulled up about it and then they don't see the funny side anymore. It is rather sad.

Yeah, I thought that would be the basis of it. But do you need a few witnesses?edison wrote:Witnesses. Anyone standing within earshot for example.
Again, this isn't specific to this case, just curious how this works in court. Do you need a number of witnesses to take it beyond one guy's word against another - assuming the accused denies any charge.
I could Google it I guess, just wondered if any legal types on here knew the deal.

If you only have one word against another word it pretty much won't lead to anything, in generalNottsClaret wrote:Yeah, I thought that would be the basis of it. But do you need a few witnesses?

these must be the racist numpties who were sat near me. i told you guys what was happening and all you did was defend it. there was booing but to the etreme that he was being singled out. not just because of Jay Rod but because of his colour. there was no racist chanting but the racial abuse being aimed at him made me embarrassed to be from Burnley.

Re: Bong
You need to go to Stamford Bridge, Hillsborough, St James Park, or many other grounds I could mention ---you will quickly realise that there is much more racism than what you have heard on the Turf and it is not just on League football grounds.pushpinpussy wrote:these must be the racist numpties who were sat near me. i told you guys what was happening and all you did was defend it. there was booing but to the etreme that he was being singled out. not just because of Jay Rod but because of his colour. there was no racist chanting but the racial abuse being aimed at him made me embarrassed to be from Burnley.
It isn't right, however, it is happening everywhere and if this was reported by Burnley fans then good luck to them.

Re: Bong
That certainly seems to be what the Brighton fans and Chris Hughton are insinuating by stating it is racist to boo Bong. Even calling him smelly is racist in one of their fans eyes.Dazzler wrote:So basically what you are saying is that only White players are fair game when it comes to being booed?
I think he was saying that whilst it wasn't being sung loudly that there were people near him that were shouting racist abuse that only those around would have heard to be fair to him.
Re: Bong
Pushpinpussy whereabouts were you sat,row seat number.
In your opening post you mention the booing but dont say anything about racist abuse.
You later go on to say the guys charged were those sat near you.

I don’t think the club should be commenting until they have seen the outcome of the court case.
Imagine following your club all over the country when your club slags you off in the national media, on the allegations of strangers without a fair trial.

Dazzler - the "OR" just shows the different ways of establishing the offence.
threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress - to satisfy the charge it has to be proven that you have used threatening words or abusive words or engaged in behaviour (any one of these three) that is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
A bit like having a choice of siblings for incest.
