Test: passed

Post by brigante » Sat Feb 09, 2019 9:38 pm

The end of 2018 saw Dyche face his first real test as a manager. Things that had been at his behest and were at his direction weren’t going his way and hadn’t been for some time. The faith of even the faithful was beginning to be questioned.

So he did a few things. He’s getting us out of it.

First real test: passed. More to do, but a corner is being well turned. Nice one gaffer.

Despite being on an excellent run, we dropped into the relegation zone today, before kicking a ball. We rolled our sleeves up and showed fight out there this evening. We are only the second team in Brighton’s premier league history, from outside the top six, to win a game at the Amex against BHA: that’s how big of a performance it was!

Every season until some sugar daddy adopts us will contain the threat of relegation. Dyche is not the kind of person to roll over and accept it and better still the board will not make knee jerk decisions, he's brought the team with him through the recent times when doubt and complacency began to creep in. Still in danger but well up for the fight.

Yes, and unless I'm mistaken, I can't recall a single one of those holding their hands up admitting they got it completely wrong and they should have instead shown even an ounce of loyalty. That said many of those you refer to go quiet after a win, but they'll reappear when our form takes an inevitable turn. Thankfully, most don't appear to go anywhere near games.

That's his first real test?
Are we sure about that?

The relegation and bouncing back don't count in guessing?
Nor dealing with the loss of Austin that time....

Oh and I agree about the gobby turds on here who hide away until the teams struggling again

I'd say every week at the club has been a test for Dyche. Losing players as alluded to in previous posts, building, promotion, relegation, rebuilding, back up and so on.

I have read and heard people say that even when we were mid table in the Championship that we were punching above our weight.

Dyche is an amazing manager. We are lucky to have him. I find all the nay sayers quite bemusing. He's a perfect match for our club, and we are for him.

If we were punching above our weight in the division below, I have no idea how we describe our current status.

I get your point but don’t consider that a test of him.

He had performed a miracle to get that promotion in the first place and had a mountain of goodwill given his swift achievements at the time. We were in good shape for most of that season so the unity of the club and his capability were never called into question.

I think things were very much swinging the other way at the end of last year and the buck stopped with him. That’s why I call it his first real test.

Ecky thump!

2 promotions
1 as champions
1 when we were favourites to be relegated to League One
23 undefeated
Recovered from relegation to rejuvenate the club
3 consecutive seasons in the top flight
Qualified for Europe

And he's only just "passed the test"??? :o

First win in February in PL? Best January in PL?
15 pts in second half of season so far, until last season our best was 17pts in the whole of the second half of a PL season. 22 pts last season in second half of season, I believe.

Mind you we've not reached the 32 points we'd accrued in the first 18 games of last season. After the 0-0 at Brighton and before Spurs went above us with that 3-0 hammering when Kane and Alli shouldn't have been playing.

On matchday 26 last season we drew 1-1 at home to Man City. We moved to 36 points from 26 games with -2 goal difference.
