Re: No Subs
TBF Folk were always moaning about the timing of his substitutions.... So it's now refreshing to see Sean dyche do what works best.martin_p wrote:One for the stattos, when’s the last time we finished a game without having made any substitutions as we did today?

Re: No Subs
Didn’t realise it was so close but I think it’s somthing Dyche has done quite a few times.

First time I remember it happening was the home win against Reading in the 2013-14 promotion season

Re: No Subs
To me, he seems to like to do before a break
Re: No Subs
It's canny, really, and I can't remember it ever legitimately backfiring under Dyche to the extent that not making a sub has ever had a blatant and obvious cost. My ignorant layman's view: in tight games such as today's where the team as a whole is playing unbelievably well, the psychological hammerblow of seeing 5+ mins stoppage time going up while enduring a barrage of hail Mary attacks is more damaging to our chances of seeing out the game than any speculative relief gained by sending on two or three pairs of fresh legs who may or may not have an impact. If we can comfortably defend while physically gassed at 80 (which we did, goal aside-I know that sounds daft given we conceded, but we were otherwise comfortable) then those exact same players can dig in and defend for 90+. It's trench warfare mentality at that point and their discipline carries them through. Subs change that. Even if subs take 30 seconds to adjust to the pace of the game, that's 30 seconds that could cost us, and I don't think we're technically good enough to use that break to slow the play. We're an attritional team to a fault. I love the fact that Dyche doesn't fetishise substitutions.

Re: No Subs
Is it the first time ever a premier league side has named an entire back 5 on the substitutes bench?

Re: No Subs
I think he would have brought on Gibson for Mee late on when Ben went down clutching his ankle. Problem was that Gibson was not warmed up.
Re: No Subs
Yet another example of the lottery of added time. You can guarantee that it was for Heaton's goal kicks but you watch a big side leading and how long they take, and they'll do all their subs, 3 mins added.Tricky Trevor wrote:Kept the added time down, didn’t it.
