It helps when the opposition play the offside trap in our half.

So in summary we are a hoofball team who can barely string a pass together that sh*ts themself when they actually get on the ball and create very little chances to score. We scramble like mad desperately throwing ourselves at the opposition in hope of not conceding and where we cant do it legally we are happy to just foul and cheat.

Based on the above I think we are overachieving to have our heads just above the dropzone and probably deserve to be down there with Huddersfield and Fulham but I'll take 17th and hope we can make a better fist of things next season

Burnley’s style has always overscored the stats, it’s the nature of how we play. We appear under the cosh and with little threat but manage to get wins. It’s very Allerdyce style, trying to find out which situations are the most dangerous and minimise them at all costs (e.g. shots from inside the box).

In recent games there has been a minor improvement defensively (2 clean sheets only) but a huge one offensively. Barnes and Wood in tandem with McNeill have made a huge difference. I am still staggered Barnes had only 2 PL starts before late Nov.

Oops, sorry, DA, I didn't intend to "like" - intended to quote. But, have a free like on me anyway.

The stats are for season to date. Some of us will have noticed that the team has changed a little over the past few weeks. Key changes: Tom Heaton in goal, Dwight McNeil, mid-field/on the wing and Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes starting together up front. And, probably shouldn't forget Phil Bardsley and both Tarks and Ben Mee keeping fit. A lot of those successes are also in the stats.

I agree, I'd like to see us passing more accurately, keeping possession as we build our attacks. Dwight did that excellently for our 2nd yesterday.

Hope you also enjoyed the game.

Brighton had more than twice as many passes than we did yesterday, however, how much of that was across the back four and back to the keeper which we were quite happy to watch them do.

I enjoyed the result and getting a few dodgy reffing decisions but if Im honest I thought the standard of the game was poor from both teams and (although I should know better) was surprised with all the 8's and 9's on the ratings thread as it felt more a game of 6's and 7's to me.

That said we're into the business end of the season and still have some work to do so i'll take the points any way they come to us

Heaton has been the difference for me (along with McNeil) as I think some of the other improvements are knock on effects of that change

I only included stats where we were in top or bottom 3.
Some interesting ones where we are middle of the pack.

Some of you really must have too much time on your hands. Devils Advocate perhaps it might be better spent doing voluntary work.

I always find it curious when people comment on others' ratings without submitting their own. Not like you to be coy DA.

I never post ratings and rarely comment on other peoples as each to their own. In this case I was just using the ratings thread scores in general to get across a point that I thought the standard of the game and our performance was well below what most thought.

As you say coys a new one for me and an original insult I can add to my existing catalogue :D

My favourite Premier League stat is that we've been in it in four of the last five seasons, and look likely to make it five in six.
