Best premier league performance of all time
Just seen City Chelsea on MOTD2.
Is that the best ever premier league performance? Incredible.
Only one I can think remotely close is Newcastle 5-0 Man Utd.

Re: Best premier league performance of all time
Some decent United performances under Sir Alex. Two that immediately spring to mind are the destructions of Arsenal and Ipswich.

United spanking Forest was a good one.
Spurs beating Wigan 9-1?
Newcastle 5-0 Man Utd
Southampton 6-3 Man United

Re: Best premier league performance of all time
I think by default, you’d have to put some Leicester performances in there. Their away win at Man City was class.

Re: Best premier league performance of all time
In context today for me over any of them.
Chelsea recently won the league.
Have a 60m keeper.
Have world cup winners.
Have a world class forward.
Are challenging for the champions league.
City were simply ruthless.
Ipswich and Forest were great performances by United no doubt. But incomparible.
Best United performance for me was a second half at White Hart Lane. 3-0 down and won 5-3.

Chelsea were beyond dreadful, I think when they battered Utd at OT when Fergie was manager was far more impressive

Also to put it in context a team that were very recently spanked 4-0 by Bournemouth.cricketfieldclarets wrote:In context today for me over any of them.

If you are comparing City and Bournemouth then surely Bournemouth scoring only two less must make it a much better performance than the billion pound team's?

Wouldn't swap him for Heaton, though.cricketfieldclarets wrote: Chelsea ...

Putting it that way Bournemouths Victory is up there with Burnleys 2..3 at Chelsea..But I think it was the style and Ease of city's win today that sets them apart from the first twoGoobs wrote:Also to put it in context a team that were very recently spanked 4-0 by Bournemouth.

Re: Best premier league performance of all time
That's the one for me, perhaps helped by the £25 bet @ 17/1 I had on our winning; I didn't expect success, but when someone offers you those odds with only two teams/three possible outcomes, it's always worth a punt.Royboyclaret wrote:Chelsea 2-3 Burnley.

This Chelsea team are so far from their best no victory against them is worthy of consideration.

That was sort of the point of my previous post although I do have to admit to admiring how easy City made it look still.Tricky Trevor wrote:This Chelsea team are so far from their best no victory against them is worthy of consideration.

Man Utd beat Arsenal 8-2 with a midfield two of Anderson and Cleverly and Danny Wellbeck up front. Fairly impressive.

. thought City were much more impressive when they dismantled reigning champions Utd 6-1 away from home. He does seem to recall Utd being reduced to 10 men though at some point?

Re: Best premier league performance of all time
not Premier League but the best performance I've ever seen (live not on the tellybox) was Liverpool 5 Nottingham Forest 0, amazing performance made even better by the fact I was in the Forest end with my Forest supporting mate, it as highly amusing !

Re: Best premier league performance of all time
Some of the big wins like Spurs 9-1 over Wigan and Man U 9-0 v Ipswich stick in the mind for pure decimation.
For performances v quality opposition it has to be either City beating United 6-1 at Old Trafford, Newcastle walloping Man U 5-0 or Man U beating Arsenal 8-2 although I do remember each time the losing sides defensively losing the plot.

Re: Best premier league performance of all time
Has anyone any idea how he is worth that? I have seen nothing to suggest he is worth 10m nevermind 60m. A colossal waste of money imo. Heaton and Pope are better keepers...and that is without my claret tinted specs on. They really are.cricketfieldclarets wrote: Have a 60m keeper.

Re: Best premier league performance of all time
I see your point but I would argue that Newcastle 5:0 Man U was better. Chelsea are only going for the top 4 whereas those two teams were battling it out for the title.cricketfieldclarets wrote:In context today for me over any of them.

There was more of an expectancy before the game yesterday that City would win whereas the Newcastle one you didn't know beforehand who would come out on top.
Re: Best premier league performance of all time
Great performace by City yesterday, but nowhere near the best ever in the PL based purely on the fact that Chelsea were completely demotivated and couldn't be arsed. If they'd demolished a proper team in that manner then fair enough, but Chelsea are sulking big time.
