Omelettes

Post by FactualFrank » Mon Feb 11, 2019 11:31 am

I've been making a few omelettes recently, as they're great to fill you up for low calories. For those who fancy a good omelette, what do you like to put in them?

Ham, cheese, mushroom and peppers.

Cooked in the pan on the stove and under the grill alternate for the perfect finish.

There’s a risk of over doing an omelette. Smoked Salmon, Bacon, Mushrooms, Onions etc etc.

But nothing beats just salt and plenty of pepper. Keep it simple. Same goes for scrambled eggs too. Keep it simple.

Really sorry but you mentioned Spanish omelette alongside peas, spinach and spring onion.
Traditional Spanish omelette would only have potatoes and a touch of onion, it would also be served cold.

Add Haggis. Cut a 3/4” slice of haggis, microwave for 1 min 20 seconds. Crumble it into whipped 2 or 3 eggs, before adding to the pan. 2 slices of toast and you’ve a tasty filling meal for 1 or 2 people.

3 eggs, mushrooms, spoonful of garlic, add jalapenos pour in to pan, sprinkle cheese on top, cook, fold cook a little longer and eat, no jalapenos for our son though.

Sometimes when I know I'm making something else I will also add half a chopped onion.

Lovely and filling and a usual Sunday morning breakfast in our place

Have previously added some sliced potatoes but not for quite a while since cutting out rice/potatoes/pasta/bread.

I heard recently that omlettes were a favourite of the Marquis de Sade. He liked them served piping hot with a sharp knife and fork on a naked buttock!

Meatballs, mushrooms. Fry up said items then when done add three whisked up eggs.

Yum.

(A large ladle full of curry sauce over the top is optional.)

Always add a tablespoon of double cream to your mix, it flufficates the omlette and adds a lot to the taste.

Tortilla in Spain is often cooked in small cafes and local bars from opening time in the morning, as it's quite a popular breakfast snack particularly with manual workers. Often enjoyed with a chunk of fresh bread and a small glass of cold beer, but not necessarily with either. Generally the tortilla is allowed to cool down a little bit before serving to customers, as the texture and flavours improve when the temperature reduces from hot to warm. It also makes a good cold snack later on in the day, too.

By coincidence I cooked a pea and potato tortilla this evening, but unfortunately it had all gone before I saw the thread!

The omelette looks great when it is ready cos it rises and actually pushes the lid up. Problem is as soon as you take it out, away from the heat it reduces to a mere damp squib. Still, a handy thing to have as there is no washing up. :)

I've just had a standard cheese and ham omelette with salad, tomato and cucumber. Something tells me 8 eggs in one day is a tad excessive, though.

Simply strong local Cheddar slices (not grated) and organic mushrooms and made not quite done so the omelettes are a bit runny...or is that scrambled eggs, no it's omelettes :D

The nicest I've made so far is: 2 eggs + chopped up cooked ham (2 slices) + grated cheese + pepper, and then cucumber and tomato on the side of the plate.

I think I'm missing a bit of brown sauce, though.
