Has anyone else noticed...

Post by ClaretMoffitt » Mon Feb 11, 2019 12:31 pm

That famous season we went 23 unbeaten. We had a really rocky patch just before that where people were losing faith in the manager and slowly but surely the moans of discontent brewed. It came to a peak on boxing day, where we lost emphatically to fellow promotion rivals Hull 3-0. The mood was incredibly low and morale was slumped, on and off the pitch. But that result spurred something on, it seemed to galvanise the team, changes were made, ie ward coming in and Lowton for darikwa and the rest is history.

However, you look at this season, and the similarities are really spooky. Leading up to Christmas the manager is once again struggling and pressure is beginning to grow. Boxing day comes around and again we suffer our most painful loss of the season against Everton, but; like last time something changes in the team. Heaton back in the 11, Barnes and Wood form a magic partnership, the inclusion of young Dwight mcniel brings a much needed zest into the side, and we are now, once again unbeaten since that dreadful boxing day result.

Put a fiver on going the rest of the season unbeaten lads, I sense a little bit of that old magic is back in there air again here.

Was thinking about that also , now did think our time was up at Old Trafford but if we can get a point there we can do well in the last 12 games of the season .

I said to mates at half time in that Everton game “we’ll get di(ked here, but then we’ll go on to finish top 10 like the Championship season”.

I had a sneaky feeling but didn’t think it would actually pan out for top 10 - more that we’d just finish comfortably safe from the drop.

I seem to see what your saying and Heaton back has worked a treat and we are going well
In the championship we were one of the Favourites to win promotion and had the skill and endeavour with players that could carry an assault like we did
If we can shut Spurs up next then the Next step who knows but in this league its very difficult to go past five without someone interfering.
The trick in this League is if you get beat you have to get back up put your neck on the line and stand up and be accounted.
The longer a run goes on the more willing and relentless you become

The 2015/16 Unbeaten Run

Post by Fretters » Mon Feb 11, 2019 1:02 pm

Started after taking a hammering on boxing day (at Hull), which prompted Sean to make two huge calls (dropping Duff and switching Mee to the centre).

Get your money on us staying unbeaten for the rest of this season ;)

But 7 doesn't fit the song.

7, 7 undefeated,
7, 7 I say, etc just doesn't work!

Ditto, it's crossed my mind too. Another 23 unbeaten run would be very nice!

Seems you've forgotten to mention the inclusion of a certain Mr Heaton.

when the " I told you so brigade " are less negative , especially on the Turf we do much better.

The feeling at the West Ham game helped us take that first big step back to normality

other than a motto, what other requirements are there to being a brigade?

Is there a minimum member number? do you have to have biweekly meetings? a postal address? a twitter account?

asking for a mate.

Not silenced, just lost their logon details until the next loss.

Notice how well those clubs who made far more signings than us are playing?

2017 was garbage. Without last seasons pre-Xmas we’d have been in trouble. The combination of Europe and a touch of cockiness (Walters mentioned it on sky) gave us the poor start this time.
2018 is looking good but we are still in a dog fight.

It has also occurred to me, but to go 19 unbeaten in this league would put even the 2016 achievement in the shade, especially with visits to Anfield and Stamford Bridge to come, plus a home game against a team that’s already put 10 past us this season!

Still, as we’ve seen before, when this team gets on a roll, anything is possible...

Also think the upturn in form of both fullbacks and the centre back pairing has been vital. Is this down to the change of keeper or was it the embarrassing defeat to Everton that caused this. I feel it's a little bit of everything mentioned including the inclusion of McNeil that has contributed to the massive upturn in form. Some tough games ahead, let's see what happens (fingers crossed).
