Double edged razors give a close shave and blades cost about 20p each

My Brother has used a Gillette razor that was our Grandfathers since he died in 1967*... he swears by it.aggi wrote:Double edged razors give a close shave and blades cost about 20p each
I tried one 40 years ago on his recommedation ... but got fed up of cuts and nicks ... so I use a wet shaver (Gillette Mach 3 disposable) when going out and a Remington 3 head electric rechargable for daily normal use
* Grandfather died in 67 not Brother obviously

Re: Price Of Gillette Razor Blades
Spent a good portion of my life selling razors.
The big manufacturers want to sell their handles (with little profit) and then the replacement blades (with 80%+ gross profit) locking you into their system.
Blade 1 cuts and raises the follicle.
Blade 2 gives a better cut and so on.
After 3 blades you are really into marketing and hype.
All good razor companies produce produce blades to their exact specification. That's why you can swish over the skin and not get cut.
Each manufacturer may be 1 micron different to the other, That's why if you change brands initially they may seem too sharp or too blunt.
Disposables are less profitable to the manufacturer than systems but basically the same blades.
