Bottom 8 teams on 13th May...

OK - bit of fun. Just had my best guess at the remaining fixtures for the current bottom 8. Don't give me the 'one game at a time' stuff or, indeed, 'the likes of Leicester could get dragged in'. As I say, a bit of fun but here's my thoughts on how things might pan out......

Palace 42 points
Soton 42 (although think I might have been optimistic - beat Ars/Eve; lose to Cardiff...who knows!)
Newcastle 41
Clarets 39
Brighton 38 (survive on GD)
Cardiff 38
Fulham 24
Hudds 21

FFS!! I know it's going to be close but no need to induce early heart attacks by posting stuff like this! Let's just bide our time and see what happens; that is going to be more than fraught enough without wishing for something so borderline.

Fine margins are a very real thing I know, but let's just hope for actual ones not theoretical ones!!

Yes, I know, it's a 'bit of fun' but no, it's really not! ;-)

Exactly. I mean for all we know, someone like Leicester could yet be dragged into the relegation battle.

Yep- you've been optimistic with Saints (currently on 24 points).
They do have Fulham and Hudd to play at home but otherwise:
Home to - Spurs, Liverpool, Wolves, Bournemouth
Away to - Arsenal, Man U, Watford, BHA, Newcastle, WHU

They'll have to do well to get much past 35 after that lot.

If they beat Fulham hudds wolves and Bournemouth draw at Newcastle and Watford that gives them 38 wow I think they are in trouble really thought it would be Cardiff but 38 points is really optimistic for them and in reality a good return from those games would be 35 !!

Looking at Cardiff fixtures and recent form I have them winning their easy ones at home including Everton, getting a point at wolves and Brighton putting them on a maximum of 39 (losing against us of course)

Brighton have some winnable games if their form picks up I can see them ending on 42

Southampton have only been beat once this year and they did enough to beat Cardiff but were just unfortunate. I can't see them rolling over anytime soon.

Newcastle 45
Palace 44
Brighton 42
Clarets 41
Cardiff 39
Southampton 38
Fulham. 36
Hudds. 24.

After looking at the fixtures i think these are the maximum amount of points each team can achieve if they win or draw all their relatively do able games we all know it won't happen but the above table us the worst case scenario, so we may as well put our feet up and relax now !

I think anyone on 38 points will survive. Given the bottom 2 almost looked certain to go down it will be teams in form and playing with confidence that will stay up. I think we are top in the chasing pack for survival in those departments closely followed by Newcastle & CP so think those 3 will survive with last place going to Cardiff/S'hampton/Brighton. I also think S'hampton will survive, just!

Bookies have Cardiff as finishing 18th and going down. They have us finishing just above them in 17th.

Is there a website where you can plug your predicted scores in for each match and it works out the table for you?

I know BBC Sport used to do one a few seasons ago but I can't seem to find it now.

Including are poor start to the season we have 27 points from 26 games. So with that in mind we could get another 12 points.
But we aren't the same team as at the start of the season... so let's just wait and see

Dont care how many points other teams amass as long as we stay up and it dosnt go down to the last couple of games, i wont have any finger nails left by then and i cant start on my toes coz my fat belly wont allow that, our vastly improved form needs to last now, we lost form last back end when the lads looked tired, hope that dosnt happen again, we WILL be ok im sure.

The one thing I would say is that amongst the 6 teams who are realistically fighting out to avoid finishing 18th, it would be a huge surprise if none had a bad run between now and the end of the season. Therefore, it still seems like to me that one of the 6 will end up on 34 points or less.

3 more wins and I'm very confident we'll stay up, but by the above logic, a couple wins and two or three draws probably gets us home - albeit not comfortably.

I'm fairly comfortable we're capable of doing that, and perhaps even getting to 40 points so that we're comfortable, but you really can't take anything for granted in this league and there'll be twists and turns along the way.

Newcastle have 2 of the top 6 left to play, Southampton and Brighton have 3, Cardiff and Palace have 4 and we have 5.
Of the games that remain against non top 6 teams:
Newcastle have 5 home and 6 away games.
Palace have 4 home and 4 away.
Brighton have 5 home and 4 away.
Southampton have 4 home and 4 away.
Cardiff have 4 home and 4 away.
Burnley have 4 home and 3 away.

Clearly we're at a disadvantage but it is in our own hands, with Palace, Leicester, Wolves and Cardiff to play at home we could lose the rest and still survive.

That home game against Cardiff could be massive for both clubs.

Bottom two are down. Didn't bother with them.
So I have it as:

Newcastle 41
Burnley 38
Palace 37
Southampton 36
Brighton 35
Cardiff 32 R
Fulham xx R
Huddersfield xx R

I have had a go at predicting and have City winning the league, Everton having a big slump and finishing 15th, and us scraping survival in 17th by a point.

1 Manchester City +84 98
2 Liverpool FC +57 95
3 Tottenham Hotspur +42 85
4 Manchester United +27 78
5 Arsenal FC +25 76
6 Chelsea FC +19 68
7 Watford FC -1 53
8 Wolverhampton Wanderers -1 50
9 AFC Bournemouth -13 50
10 Leicester City -4 47
11 West Ham United -13 46
12 Brighton & Hove Albion -14 44
13 Newcastle United -10 43
14 Southampton FC -17 41
15 Everton FC -9 40
16 Crystal Palace -11 38
17 Burnley FC -32 35
18 Cardiff City -33 34
19 Fulham FC -46 23
20 Huddersfield Town -50 14

Some of those teams in the scrap have to play each other though so they can't both win

As soon as the fixture list was published our tough looking run-in was there for all to see.

That meant that we needed to start the season on the front foot and picking up valuable points which, sadly, we failed to do making it a squeaky bum time end to the season.

I think if it comes down to the last four or five games as it more than likely will do
then anything could happen. The game against Cardiff at home may be pivotal
but even if we were to lose that one and even though we've got the worst last 4 fixtures
of any of those who may still be in the frame then I do feel there might be
some surprises.

I think we still might have to get some points from Everton away and Arsenal at home
and it would be just great if we could get a win away to Everton and beat Arsenal at home
in our last fixture and ensure we stay up.

So we will get something?

Of those last four fixtures, the Chelsea game is just after the Europa League quarter final second leg and the Arsenal game is just after the semi-final second leg - there's a good chance both will be involved and the likelihood of resting players etc. for when they play us. We saw last season the form of the big teams tailed off a little in the league towards the end of the season once the league positions had been sorted out and their focus was on Europe/the FA Cup so I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that we can pick up some points.

Brighton40
Newcastle 39
Cardiff 38
Palace 37
Clarets 37
Southampton 35
Fulham 22
Hudds 19

Lots of 6 pointers amongst these 8 so a couple of results could change the landscape drastically.

Interesting to see that points wise the table was almost identical to last season.

Swansea finished in 18th on 33, Southampton 17th on 36 & Huddersfield in 16th on 37.

You're part right there Spijed, imho.

The key difference is the bottom two. Last season WBA and, certainly, Hudds were still in touch. This season Fulham and Hudds are cut adrift, really. Probably means a higher number of points needed this season to stay up, although it would be helpful if Fulham and Huddersfield could take a few points of those at the bottom.....

Fulham will surely win away at some point. I don't see why that couldn't be away to Southampton. And the Cardiff/Newcastle home games they have are very winnable, and could make all the difference.

But providing we don't suffer any injuries, our starting 11 is more than good enough of picking up enough points, regardless.

Two seasons ago, when we were winning fairly regularly at home, but losing nearly every away game we had 31 points after 28 matches and were 7 pts clear of safety.

We are doing almost as well this season.

I think the fantastic win against spurs and the abject performance against Newcastle is all you need to know about projections. It's incredibly difficult to know where you'll pick up points.

Saints have lost Obafemi for the season and manager is crying Redmond is his only striker and can’t do it on his own.
Cardiff suffering from a comedown after their tragedy.
BHA this seasons freefall team.
Will all finish below us but above Fulham & Terriers.
Nothing else matters.
