Although he never played for us, I thought it was appropriate to write a few words for the site about Gordon Banks.

A great goalkeeper. He set very high standards in that position for those challenging him during his prime and also for the excellent goalkeepers England was fortunate enough to have in the years after him. Always seemed a very humble, likeable fellow. RIP Gordon Banks.

I was a student at Lancaster in the early '70's and a few of us went to Liverpool for the weekend. A mate and I went to Anfield to watch Liverpool v Stoke. We stood in the Kop, right behind the goal, which was an incredible experience in itself. After the interval Banksy came to our end and received an ovation like no other - he was loved by all supporters. The following day he had his car crash........

A magnificent goalkeeper and from all accounts a thoroughly nice man.
'That save' will always come to mind whenever Gordon Banks name is mentioned and one I'll never tire of watching.
Fine words also from Pele.
RIP Gordon Banks.

I have his autograph at home.
i remember walking around Gay Meadow with my dad and my grandfather prior to our game there on New Year's Day 1980 and briefly meeting Gordon as he left the ticket office.
