I just do a custom set up at the start where I don't actually load the leagues but load players based in Europe and South America. It should have them on if not I will start fresh I've only played 1 friendly anyway.

Try this tactic out. It’s quite intense and requires a top notch striker.

Fiete Arp, Sandro Tonali, Xadas, Almiron, Pelayo Morilla, Antonio Marin, Moise Kean

All signings reasonably cheap earlier in the game. First three are the best in my save, all the big clubs want them though.

I've had some success with a 433 gegenpress. Qualified from the Euro group with last game still to come.

Had a brilliant start in the league beating United and Spurs and was 6th heading into November. My players are knackered now though and dropping like flies, lost 7 on spin in the league.

I switch between the 4-4-1-1 and 4-1-4-1 formations depending on who I’m playing against. Sometimes I play 5-3-2 wb counter against the big clubs with the aim of frustrating them to possibly knick a point.

The game AI figures you out if you play 1 formation all the time.

That has been my problem with recent versions of fm. My tactic was to create a tactic, perfect it and get my reserves and youth to play the same tactic and have a conveyer belt of youth coming through.

Took the change up of tactics on board. Although I had lost 7 on spin they were close games, got absolutely hammered by Cardiff with new formation.

This new version is a lot harder than older ones I last played.

First rule of tactics on FM is play the tactic that you've got the players for.
Starting out as Burnley, always do well with a 4-4-2, 4-1-4-1, 4-4-1-1. Have at least two set up to swap between as mentioned the AI will figure it out.

Keep an eye on form as well, if players form drop, warn them about it, you'll see a improvement, likewise with training.

If anyone is struggling- do a team report comparison with the rest of the league..

If on average the team is better dribblers, quicker etc select stuff like 'pass into space', 'dribble more'..

I'm not so much into gimmicky tactics like 2 CBs & three holding midfielders, think it's a bit cheap personally.

Or playing about 3 playmakers on the pitch, just not realistic at all.

One approach I like to have as an under dog is 'money ball' approach.

Get a player that may not be amazing but has one top attribute and exploit it.

For example with Stirling Albion, I picked up a free agent CB Sam Dryden (not particularly good) but had pace 14 acceleration 14 - which for a Scottish League 2 CB is unreal.

Putting Dryden on a CB cover role, allowed me to play an extremely high line but I also played with a low line of engagement to really condense the pitch.

Any balls over the top Dryden was as quick as any striker in that league and did enough to at least pressure the striker.

Then our mentality was cautious & instructed to counter attack pressing relentlessly.

Upfront was a pressing forward - Kane Hester, again not great but work rate 16 + decent bravery, physicals & teamwork, so he could lead the press and bring the rest of the team into play.

I still play championship manager 03/04 which was the last one sports interactive did before they got booted and made football manager. This is the one where Thierry Henry is always available on a free in January.

I spent most of my time with Palermo in Italy, still play it occasionally on my old wheezing laptop that weighs a tonne. I'm in 2024 and have won everything multiple times of course.

My best Burnley career started with Halifax Town. I got them into the second division from the Conference then took Peterbrough to the first division. Meanwhile Burnley had slipped to the bottom of the third division. I resigned from Peterborough and applied for the job but was stiffed.

Then Bastards offered me the job in the Premier league. I took it and won the league Cup and uefa Cup with them (it hurt).

Then I resigned and this time Burnley offered me the job. I took at and got from third division to PL winners in seven years. That felt good.

With my switch to nights it now frees up Sunday night's for football manager for the first time in years!

Sacked by Sunderland in first season, moved to Croatian side Istres who were all but relegated. Started the season in second division in Croatia by winning first 3-4 games but haven’t revisited since. Mamadou Thiam on loan from Barnsley being my only notable signing

Pretty fun as I spent many hours playing CM0304 back in the day, cool seeing the likes of Lionel Morgan/Rob Earnshaw/Reo-Coker/Dean Ashton/Freddy Adu/Ritchie Partridge/David Bellion etc.

I tweaked Burnley a little bit, including sorting out Richard Chaplow out (who was set as a coach) added Stan Ternent etc.

I had already downloaded this at the weekend. It's actually been updated to have stan ternent and Chaplow.

I didn't noticed the load to take any longer than usual. Maybe that has been fixed with the update. Signed Chiellini and Bonucci as back up CBs for the clarets. I'm really struggling though as our squad was seriously poor.

I went to the link for the download version of the database. Maybe the workshop isn't updated as frequently?

There is also a 2003/04 facepack and stadiums that add to the experience that i would recommend downloading.

I wish they'd do a 90s one.

I've added the real fixtures for the Championship that year (and results if you want to start at anypoint during the season) if anybody is interested

Also tweaked Cardiff, Rotherham and Coventry to be playing at Ninian Park, Millmoor and Highfield Rd (with future dates set to move into their new stadiums)..

Along with going through every Championship team setting their attendance to the average attendance they had that season (Stoke average of 14k instead of 20k.. Walsall average around 8k instead of 3k etc) along with fixing their previous season position (which all seemed to messed up, such as Wimbledon showing as finishing midtable in the Premier League the season before, when they actually finished 10th in the Championship)

Re-named Div 1 to Championship, as it became known as the Championship at the end of this season anyway (feels strange playing in Div 1 after the first season)

Have you loaded this with the 19.3 update? Couldn't get Brazil as a playable nation upon loading. Will try loading with the 19.1 later

Yeah I've seen that but is that based off the actual database or is it opinion based therefore guesswork? What makes this DB so appealing is that it's that actual database from that season if that makes sense.
