6 pointers that could decide relegation

Post by tiger76 » Wed Feb 13, 2019 10:22 pm

Talk on the other thread about the points needed for survival.

Of course the teams in the mire can buck the trend and pick up shock results, but these games are where the bottom 3 will ultimately be determined.

23 Feb Newcastle vs Huddersfield

26 Feb Newcastle vs Burnley

27 Feb Southampton vs Fulham

2 March Brighton vs Huddersfield

2 March Burnley vs Crystal Palace

9 March Crystal Palace vs Brighton

16 March Brighton vs Cardiff

30 March Brighton vs Southampton

30 March Crystal Palace vs Huddersfield

6 April Newcastle vs Crystal Palace

13 April Burnley vs Cardiff

20 April Newcastle vs Southampton

27 April Brighton vs Newcastle

27 April Fulham vs Cardiff

4 May Cardiff vs Crystal Palace

12 May Fulham vs Newcastle

12 May Southampton vs Huddersfield

Whichever of the current bottom 8 have a good run out of these fixtures, their chances of remaining in the PL,will be greatly enhanced.

Hopefully one of them will be us.

Don't they always?
As I recall in 2009/10 - possibly similar in 2014/15 too? We got most of our points from teams who finished in the top half of the table; beating Man Utd, Everton & Spurs was fun, but we'd have been better trading a one of those for a win against Wigan or West Ham.

Huddersfield are so far behind it's probably in our interest they win those now and take points off the rest.

Wining all four would only see them on 23 points, shame they're all away but even draws would help our cause. Not holding my breath though...

I believe we're top of the table for the bottom eight head to head. We've played a game or two more than some others, but we're doing the job when it matters.

Just by chance surely Huddersfield have to pick some points up before the season's end, sure they are virtually down but there is an opportunity to impress the new gaffer, and build morale for next season, even Sunderland picked up a win once their fate had been sealed,as did we in both our PL relegation campaigns,it's amazing what can happen when the pressure's released.
