15 years

For mugger who killed 100 year old woman who was a nazi camp survivor. He’s 40 but will probably be out in 8. 24 previous convictions for 51 offences including battery in 2014. Personally I’d throw the book at him or dispense with him. I’m sure there are many on here who would prefer therapy.

Is that the maximum he could legally be given?

How very presumptuous of you...I'm ok at the minute.

Only therapy I would be interested in for this waste of breath would be electro-shock therapy set at about 40,000 volts.

There are far to many people wandering around with a large number of convictions.
They need to make a decision on some people, if they reach X amount of convictions, just lock them up for a longer period of time.

He won't serve his full term and doubt he will ever really be remorseful for what he's done.

Range of sentencing for manslaughter is between 1 and 24 years jail, suspended in less serious cases. Really serious cases get a life sentence. Presumably the judge thought that deliberately knocking over an old woman and leaving her bleeding in the street, was mid-range in terms of seriousness of the offence. Perhaps a bit lower than mid-range, because he had all the aggravating factors that make the sentence longer (history of crime, age of victim) and none of the mitigating factors (remorse, guilty plea, attempt to assist the victim).

It seems the judge was anxious to keep the sentence as low as possible. I have no idea what would be considered the most aggravated from of manslaughter. Nor why he wasn't charged with murder, for that matter - what did he expect to happen when he beat up a 100 year old woman?

If we decriminalised drugs, people like this would no longer have to steal to pay for their habits.

Drugs like heroin could be made available to registered addicts free through the NHS. The money we’d save in policing, courts and jails, and in hospital treatment would more than cover (probably a hundred times) the cost. And your insurance premiums would drop too.

Nice in theory, but unlikely to be a success, IMO.

It's nice that he got a trial. And it's nice that this isn't one of those cases where being supportive of the process we use to determine guilt doesn't make me some kind of terrorist apologist to the small minds among us.

You are though tbh, you should just own it instead of passing it off all the time. It's fine, a lot of like minded folk will support you in it regardless. I mean, you hate Trump more than people in the OP.

I'm a terrorist apologist? Do you hear that, everyone? Supporting our way of justice makes you a terrorist sympathiser. Pack your bags, boys and girls. We're going to Gitmo!

And that's a bold statement you've made at the end there. Have you got ANY facts whatsoever to back it up? No? Didn't think so.

It’s really sad when people desperately go out of their way on here to try and find someone who sympathises with such criminals. Inevitably nobody does and you end up looking dumb.

They like to create this fantasy of a lefty, and then they attack their own fantasy to prove how crazy the lefties are. It's pretty funny to watch.

Somebody like this (long before he reached this stage) based on his criminal record; I'd be quite happy for him to be locked up in spartan conditions. And, while I'm against the state taking its own citizens' lives (or those we happen to be putting up), there'd be a facility for the citizen to end it all themselves if they didn't fancy it.

Radical as it might seem, this is the system we had in Britain from the early 20th Century until heroin was criminalised in the late 1960s. As soon as heroin was made illegal, the number of users mushroomed from several thousand across the whole UK to tens of thousands in Scotland alone. I'd say the present system is the thing that doesn't work.

We need more prisons

Knife crime out of control in London and the perpetrators know that they will not get long sentences because our prisons are full
