Names In The Game That Were In It For Their Own Gain
The list is debatable so here goes
Ken Bates
Robert Maxwell
Sepp Blatter Jack Warner and Nicolas Leoz
For spiralling detrimental reasons Jimmy Hill
Jack Haywood from the fans point of view
Doug Ellis
and mentioned in a thread on the page that got me thinking debatable again
David Dein and now possibly Richard Scudamore is in my reckoning all though say the greed of the league would not be as big as it is but for his work
And last but not least the Oystons got to take your hat of to the lashers for sticking it up them.
Is there anymore of these characters you can add and your take on the aforementioned.

Beat me to it.Tall Paul wrote:All of them.
However, I had a career as a Registered Nurse for people with learning disabilities - I did it because I could but I did it for the money, even though I loved what I did. I have never volunteered to do anything outside work. when I 'retired' I became an international van driver - guess what, I did it for the money, even though I loved the job. I never drove anywhere for any company for no pay.

You offered a brilliant bit of information their please elaborate as its looks like the sort of quote that highlights a fact that i hate the game its become statementTall Paul wrote:All of them.
"All of who players management owners" Bolton is a prime example of greed and demoralisation and could be a case of none nonexistence and Owen Coyle and Slimeside are in there too, just a thought it only takes a little contribution as all of them is a bit wide of the mark I wish i had been a pro footballer

I'm not sure what there is to elaborate on. Everyone in football is in it for their own gain, in one way or another.Longside4evr wrote:You offered a brilliant bit of information their please elaborate as its looks like the sort of quote that highlights a fact that i hate the game its become statement

It'd be much more difficult (if not impossible) to give an example of someone who isn't.

Bob Lord sold players when the Club needed money, or when a replacement was already available.

All the managers who take money out of the game for the buying and selling of players.one has a dog with a Monaco bank account.
They are paid to improve players they shouldn’t get a bonus for doing just that.

Re: Names In The Game That Were In It For Their Own Gain
I don't agree that Deadly Doug should be in that original list.
He pumped a lot of his own money into Villa over the years, doubt he got much profit on what he put in when he sold to Randy Lerner. He gave a lot of money to charity too- so hardly a selfish skinflint.
I think he loved his club and did the best he could (another owner may or may not have done better - who knows).
Many fans just like to moan about directors /owners taking money (as per some posters on here inaccurately intimating that our directors are coining it in). Sometimes it's the truth (Blackpool the obvious topical example but the ManU mob also) but often it aint so.

Re: Names In The Game That Were In It For Their Own Gain
I posted this on the Magic money tree thread - but it has as much relevance here - pretty damning stuff but no different (apart from scale) really to the local business men made good who wanted to increase their standing in the community - like Robert William Lord

Re: Names In The Game That Were In It For Their Own Gain
Reading into that and what meany suspect is that FIFA is the most corrupted of them all and the powers that be where monies involved concerns golden hand shakes and how much will it cost to win being the hosting nation
Russia and Qatar being a prime example they knew where to deliver and what hunting grounds would pay for the price.
Its gone very quite on this very on going investigation i would imagine they have to be cagey about who is involved and what dark horses that may be revealed this will be a lot deeper than the dark web
