RIP indeed.

The film was a belter, but compared to what these men did in reality, it is a piece of light entertainment.

Brave men. God rest them all. They’ve earned it.

Didn’t know any were stil living. Incredible. Brave and selfless sums it up. Recently read a book by one of the Colditz escapees and the can do attitude these men had was astounding.

Mr. Churchill, and other survivors of the Great Escape, were very critical of the film because it portrayed Americans being involved.
By the time of the escape, the Americans had been moved to a different camp. The escape was purely a British effort.
Most of the recaptured escapees were executed on Hitler's orders. Mr. Churchill was spared because the Germans thought he might be related to Winston Churchill and might therefore be a useful bargaining tool.

Lots of people having a pop at Winston at the moment and here's you openly calling him a Dick. A disgrace. ;)
