Newport, a bit of fun.

Post by Funkydrummer » Sat Feb 16, 2019 9:05 am

I wonder what their game stats will be, particularly possession.

I'll go for 15% possession. zero shots on goal, 3 bookings and zero goals.

I think you will be surprised. A very direct team on an awful pitch.
A bit of a graveyard for big teams down there.

City players won't fancy it.

City will win the game I reckon. A draw would be a fairytale for Newport, but then they’d get slaughtered about 10-0 in a replay.

I hope they get the chance though, but even I dodgy pitch might not stop the City juggernaut.

Newport need to hire a plough. They still have a punchers chance.

Wouldn't be surprised if Newport make them sweat a bit. They'll definetely give them more of a game than we did in the last round anyway.

I hear thar Citeh have been training in a farmer's field all week, so they will
be suitably acclimatised. ;)

Newport keeper plays the game of his life, save after save.
Plus a penalty saved too. (Citeh also miss another one).
When he's beaten, his defence clear three off the line.
Citeh also hit the post (2) and crossbar. (2)

Newport win, 1-0

8-)

Are smaller teams no longer able to decide to switch around the venue anymore in order to get more from gate receipts?

Glad they've not opted to if that's still the case

John Hartson doesn’t think that Pep will want extra time and penalties here.

Spot the bloody obvious, John.

Newport have had 22.5% possession so far.

Newport passing is 47% with Man city on 85%.

Man City have struggled to deal with any balls into the box.

Lump it up to Barnes and Wood! ;)

Not fair that was nearly only our Reserves.

Spot on. I've seen two posters on this one thread shout out suggesting Newport did better than us (presumably because the scoreline was closer). I hope they realise football really isn't that simple. We were away, for a kickoff. And like you say, we played mainly our second string. We then went to Old Trafford and were minutes from coming away with a deserved win.

I think ClaretTony is spot on when he sometimes points out it's like some fans love it when we lose.

We could have still put a few tackles in and competed.
