A decent home made burger wins every time.exilecanada wrote:Since when has McPukes been making edible burgers? They taste like sawdust! Burger King and Wendy’s aren’t far behind. Harveys make the only decent burger available at a fast food type outlet, at least they taste like a burger, and one can choose the toppings, not the ‘production line’ toppings! Best burgers are home made…..fresh lean ground beef, a little seasoned salt, pinch of garlic powder and done to perfection on the bbq.
What stopped me from eating from fast food outlets in North America, was working in one myself. Not fast food as such, but a Pizza Hut. There are all sorts of ethical issues, health related ones, environmental ones, but the one that usually convinces people is "Look at that teenager's room" Times that by all the other teenagers that work there, and you get a collective hygiene perception low enough to ignore hunger pangs. Of course there are rules for them to follow, but when you treat young people like crap, and pay them as little as possible, you won't get them as committed to keeping to rules as you might otherwise.

When I lived in Thailand, the island I lived on had no fast food joints. People going on visa runs would bring Maccas back for other dive instructors. I didn't eat Maccas for about 4 years then went one day when we were on the mainland.....2 hours later was sick as a dog!!!

Listen, whatever your taste in "food", (the last time I had black pudding, it tried to crawl off of my plate, and I had to stab it repeatedly in order to make it behave itself), just remember that a flame-broiled burger (cooked over a charcoal briquette grill), is always superior to a fried, assembly line one, like McDonald's serves. And you Brits and your addiction to everything fried. No wonder few of you live past the age of sixty!

True story, but I forget the guy's name. Thing is, if he hadn't taken up jogging, he would have died 10 years earlier. He was only a tiny, little shrimp of a man. Probably in-bred somewhere in England.

Re: McDonald's Hamburgers
You mistake weight with obesity, my friend. Canadians (at least those, like myself, who are 6th generation Canadians) tend to be taller and more naturally muscular than those of you who filled out the "territorial" ranks of the British Army in the last world war. When my uncle went ashore on D-Day, carrying a Bren gun, as the biggest man in his unit, all 6-foot, 2-inches, 225 lbs of him, it was because of the selective breeding that was required to carve out a home in the Canadian wilderness. So, go ahead and make jokes about us Canucks. We'll just smile, and ask if you need another Thwaites.

James F. Fixx, who spurred the jogging craze with his best-selling books about running and preached the gospel that active people live longer, died of a heart attack Friday while on a solitary jog in Vermont. He was 52 years old.

Ahhh…….a chip butty………such a delicacy, haven’t had one in ages, thanks for the reminder! Plenty of butter on the bread, pile on the chips, malt vinegar and pepper. The key is to squash the bread down so the taste permeates the bread.
We have a similar artery hardening delicacy called Poutine, a Quebec invention. Fries with cheese curds smothered in gravy…..what’s NOT to like about that?

What i will say is that I rarely eat fast food, but if I had to choose one thing it would be the McSausage and egg Muffin. As you correctly say, BK's do thr best burger as long as you can find one that does it well. Bury seems to be ok. I did try the one at the cinema in Burnley once and I won't go again

You should post a picture of one of Cherry's suits, exile. People across the pond wouldn't believe it. But, of course, it's all about his self-promotion. He constantly shags off European hockey players, but he's married to a Swedish woman. A total hypocrite. And why are you an expert on poutine, as an immigrant, while I, as a multi-generational Canadian, have never tasted the stuff. Probably a taste you acquired while visiting Quebec City. (Plus you're apparently multilingual now. You must live near Wilfrid Laurier University, in the French part of K/W.)

Ya, I’ll post a picture of Cherry in one of his outrageous suits later on. As for being a poutine expert, not an expert, however I do enjoy the delicacy…… a lot! For many years Harvey’s was the only place serving poutine, then a few years back, for some reason everyone jumped on the bandwagon, not only fast food type places, but family type restaurants, sports bars as well. The link below is for the best poutine available, a 3 minute drive from my home. They also serve a pretty good fish n chips, plus most other artery hardening dishes one cares to mention.

Political correctness has not reached the art form that it is in Britain so much in Canada, yet. The last time I was in England, I was upbraided for even mentioning that the other team had a black player, and that we would probably lose because of that fact. All I was really doing was making a factual reference. You can get away with a lot worse than that in Canada.

Re: McDonald's Hamburgers
I worked at McDonalds for a while in the late 70s - when there were only 23 outlets in the whole country, all in London apart from one in Southend, and the High Street Kensington branch where I was rated the third busiest in the world outside of the US. My abiding memory is seeing the grotesque inside of a shake machine that hadn't been cleaned properly for a few days - I never eat anything from a McD unless there's absolutely no alternative. Love a good burger from elsewhere though.

Rarely have fast food or take aways and haven't eaten in McDonalds in at least 10 years, and then only the chicken burger. I would not touch the other muck.
On the very rare occasion I try a takeaway, it is at a Turkish place on Bridge Street, Manchester. Then I sit in and eat it. I was there the other lunch time and had a Chicken Donner with salad and garlic sauce washed down with black coffee from the restaurant next door it was excellent.
I would honestly starve than eat McDonalds, Kentucky or Burgar King muck

Not everybody has the luxury of living in a part of the world where trees are plentiful enough in order to cut them down in order to make toilet paper. You should thank God that there is enough virgin forest in northern Scandinavia to make your arse wipe. Otherwise, you'd be using one hand to eat with and the other to "do the nasty", just like 99% of the people in the third world.
