I predict we won’t reach the quarters for a long time.

Re: F.A. Cup Q.Final predictions
It's always going to be Palace/Brighton. I put that myself first but then I changed my mind. So I thought Brighton v. United as a repeat of the PL tie.

Pretty happy with that!!
Re: F.A. Cup Q.Final predictions
Not bad! Swap Man U for Millwall and the home/away City/Swansea and err... I lost my bet!
Re: F.A. Cup Q.Final predictions
Brighton could get to the end up in the bottom three with having a few games to catch up.
Pressure if they want to stay up!

Re: F.A. Cup Q.Final predictions
Quite an interesting draw. Apart from Man City the other 3 games should be fairly well matched. Millwall will fancy their chances of turning Brighton over at the Den.

A lot more possibilities than 58 Psotto. I make it 105 combinations, 1680 permutations (where home or away counts).
In any case, Wolves v Man U is the game out of the 4 that Id like to see.

Reckon Wolves will turn United over at home leaving the way for City to become the first team ever to buy the domestic treble.

Wolves win
Watford - Palace draw, taken into extra time.
Brighton take Man U into extra time... and win
Man City win
Re: F.A. Cup Q.Final predictions
I make it 9x5x3 different pairings, but if it is home or away then 10!/4!
I'd like
city v united
Brighton v palace
Swansea v millwall
wolves v Watford
and then 4x home wins.

Did you miss the bit where they did the draw?timshorts wrote:I make it 9x5x3 different pairings, but if it is home or away then 10!/4!

Re: F.A. Cup Q.Final predictions
Wasn't really interested. I also for some reason started with 10 sides, so the maths should be 7x5x3 and 8!/4!
what was the draw then?
what was the draw then?
Re: F.A. Cup Q.Final predictions
Start off with Wolves:
Wolves can play seven different teams either home or away =14 matches. Then they are off the list.
Man U can play six different teams (minus the Wolves fixture( home or away =12 matches. Then they are off the list etc. etc.
Brighton can play five different =10 matches.
Millwall can play four different =8 matches.
Watford can play three different =6 matches.
C.Palace can play two different =4 matches.
That leaves Man City and Swansea to play the remaining =2 matches.
14+12+10+8+6+4+2=56! I was two out in a casual guess. 9x5x3 is????? 9x5=45. 45 x3=135. 9x(3x5)=141. How does that relate to 56???????
If there are 56 matches, what are the odds on getting the correct four ties?
... Meanwhile Tim Noone cheated!!!!!!!

Re: F.A. Cup Q.Final predictions
It's 7x 5 x 3. so 105.
The first bit is right. Wolves can play 7 different teams.
But you are looking for combinations, so for every one of those 7 draws there are 6 sides left. If you then repeat what you did for wolves, picking a random side, which you can't name because it might be the side that wolves played, this side X has 5 possible opponents left. Then side Y has 3 opponents to pick from. There is a fourth part of the equation, but I ignored that as the last two sides would have to play each other so it wouldn't impact. Technically the equation is 7x 5x 3x 1.
the main difference, though, is that you are adding your numbers rather than multiplying them.
In a league format, the formula to use is n(n-1) for home and away or n(n-1)/2 if home/away doesn't matter.

Re: F.A. Cup Q.Final predictions
Hmm... There are 56 combinations of INDIVIDUAL fixtures. I can work that out. I've forgotten to add what COMBINATIONS of GROUPS OF FOUR there can be.
I still don't get your logic, though, so I'm not entirely convinced.
My maths is a bit skewed on the other bit as well. 10 x 15 =150. 9 x 15 = 135. It was a late night post. I hope that's the excuse anyway, or I've lost some brain cells.
... Mind you, this is a breakfast post.
