Team for Spurs?
Team for Spurs?
To be honest just wanted to see something about football. Who's back from injury?, play two up front?, free hit? ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Bit rhetorical really.
The 11 picks itself now for the rest of this season barring injury or suspension or back to back defeats with very poor displays
Heaton
Bardsley Tark Mee Taylor
Hendrick Cork Westwood McNeil
Wood Barnes
A fully fit Defour wouldn’t get in this side ever now... a fully fit JBG/Brady may edge out Hendrick/McNeill but not while they’re in there this form

Re: Team for Spurs?
No reason to change a successful lineup, we could get a point from this game. Tuesday's game vs Newcastle is a biggee. Defour has played his last meaningful game for Burnley.

Re: Team for Spurs?
Be mad if we changed it, though I'd hope we have both JBG and Brady on the bench.
Re: Team for Spurs?
Echo a lot of the above...
You do not change a winning side unless injury or suspension enforces it.

Re: Team for Spurs?
Previous home games have shown how we miss a winger especially someone like jbg so I'd put him in for Hendrick.

Agree with what you are saying but I think playing Hendrick there so our midfield is narrower is wiser against Spurs.CFS wrote:Previous home games have shown how we miss a winger especially someone like jbg so I'd put him in for Hendrick.
Re: Team for Spurs?
Same as last time. JBG for Hendrick at most.
Regardless of what may work better on paper, over-experimentation has let us down this year.

Re: Team for Spurs?
With an overlapping lowton yes but bardsley likes to come into the midfield area rather than out wide when we attack leaving a huge gap on our right side.RVclaret wrote:Agree with what you are saying but I think playing Hendrick there so our midfield is narrower is wiser against Spurs.

With the run of form that we're in right now, then I'd like to think that it's a case of "ain't broke, don't fix it" - just a shame that Harry Kane has picked this weekend to return to fitness. http://spursforlife.com/kane-is-able-once-again/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Same team for me.South West Claret. wrote:The Ali the cheat fit as well?
You could possibly make an argument for JBG coming in on the right for McNeil, with Hendrick swapping to the left, because there's a decent chance Vertongen will be at left back, which means it makes sense to attack him, whereas Trippier's presence on the opposite side may demand more defensive diligence. But I imagine we'll start with McNeil left and Hendrick right, and swap them over if we need to (as we did at United and Brighton).
I'd definitely play Hendrick on one flank because I think his athleticism and physicality allow us to be more solid in the centre of the pitch and out wide when we don't have the ball, whilst his ability to carry the ball is a big asset on the counter attack. There may be home games when we benefit from the additional width and attacking craft JBG (or Brady) offers, but I'm not sure those against title contenders fall into that bracket.

Why would you drop McNeil at the moment??claretspice wrote:Same team for me.

I wouldn't. I said the same team.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote:Why would you drop McNeil at the moment??
But in both the last two games we've ended up swapping him and Hendrick so Hendrick can help Taylor with an attacking full back with whom McNeil had struggled a bit. Hence the option outlined in my previous post, given that JBG is very comfortable playing down the right (and from what I've seen, more comfortable than McNeil). And of course Dyche will have half an eye on Newcastle away on Tuesday. On the other hand, McNeil's ability to retain possession down the left hand side could be a real benefit against a top side (his passing accuracy stats are tremendous), and of course he's got the talent to exploit Trippier's occasional vulnerabilities defensively.
Personally, I'm looking forward to the match up between Turf Moor protégés old and new down that side, enhanced by the fact they're both better at the part of their jobs that involves having the ball than without it.

Don’t really see any argument for our most creative winger to be dropped for one who’s been poor and injured most of the season.

Re: Team for Spurs?
The first XI will be the same, the question should be:-
Which seven players do you put on the bench?
Seven from Hart, Pope, Lowton, Ward, Long, Gibson, JBG, Brady, Crouch, Vydra (have i missed any?). In the next few weeks Defour (haha) and Lennon could be added to the list.
