Bardsley
Any word on a new contract. Believe he is out of contract at end of the seson, or have I missed something? Personally feel he is the better of the two right backs with Lowtons unbelievable sudden poor form this season. With other areas needing strenghtening and players going needing to be replaced I think we should go same again next season as dont want to many going

Has to be worth another year even if Matt was to become first choice again. Proved himself a top professional.

Re: Bardsley
Any contract talks will surely depend what division we're competing in next season,as that's still up in the air,the budget won't yet be known,i'd certainly give Phil another year but he might get a longer contract at a Championship club.
Re: Bardsley
What a signing he turned out to be. Always overlooked on the clubs transfer dealings (slating) threads because he didn't break the bank or turn heads initially.

Re: Bardsley
The lad certainly deserves another year. Lowton needs to up his game though. The club should be looking for a young and up and coming rfb in the Summer transfer window, to gradually introduce him to 1st team football, in the way we have done with Charlie Taylor

Another 2 he deserves
Re: Bardsley
Perhaps Lowton has upped his game... but who would drop Bardsley at the moment.
When Lowton is on his game, he's a fantastic right back

Re: Bardsley
I was surprised that Bardsley got so much stick last season and earlier this season to be honest. He'll never be the best full back in the Premier League but he was hugely popular with fans at both Sunderland and Stoke which says a lot about him.
This season, Lowton has looked nothing like the player he was last season and Bardsley has stepped up and played really well, particularly in the last couple of months or so. I still haven't got my head round him being left out for that Boxing Day game against Everton but it actually worked in his favour with Lowton getting a ban following that game. Playing really well right now and I'd certainly not be disappointed if he got another deal.

Re: Bardsley
Fans wanna see players playing like they are fans of the club.
Phil Bardsley does that every game.
For me, he gets another two years offered. Be foolish not to keep our eyes and ears open, with a view to finding a long term replacement tho.

Fans will always get behind players or give them an easier ride if they are seen to be giving 100%.bobinho wrote:Fans wanna see players playing like they are fans of the club.

Bardsley combines both the effort and quality. He is still the player I am usually most concerned about picking up a red (or more likely two yellows), closely followed by Ash Barnes.
Sometimes I think both those players aren't given enough credit for how good a player they are because people only see the work rate and aggressive nature of their games.

I’d like to see a thread from the time we signed him.
I suspect some of those who have been singing his praises recently may well have been complaining about signing a 30+ year old from Stoke.

Re: Bardsley
Did we have Bards on loan from Man U about 10 or so years ago.? I wonder why we never tried to sign him as he looked a good player for us at that time i remember.

Re: Bardsley
Gets caught up field too often and only ambles back. good job Westwood is good enough to protect him
Re: Bardsley
isn't it wonderful though where we seem to have good cover in nearly every position for injuries and suspension, I think this has been a significant change from a few years ago. We always have to look to the future, short and long term and where we can try to sign players who can really breakthrough and also increase their value both monetarily and on the playing side for improvement.
This is something we have not done to well with in recent years and news of scouts/directors joining always gives me hope but to be honest in terms of transfers it has been disappointing for a few years imo. I still look forward to the summer transfer period though, masochist that I am
Yes I think he needs a new contract, length I will leave to the club though

Not the thread when we signed him, but still some hilarious comments from a certain individual.

Re: Bardsley
Nothing against Bardsley but right back is an important position in the modern game and very much for us. Think we should try to get the best RB we can in the summer and then decide on who we want as back up.

Re: Bardsley
Big fan and definitely gets a new deal. My one criticism is that I wish he would realise his goals record is terrible so stop attempting the goal of a season contenders from 35 yards out and lay it off to someone else!
Been a fan of Lowton but think it’s time to move him on this summer and seek a new, young long term Bardsley/Lowton replacement. Bardsley’s shirt though until he does anything to deserve to not keep it.
