Not sure I can take this list serious as Barrow-in-Furness isn't on it.

Take BAE Subs out of Barrow and the place would be like somthing out of a horror film, 6500 people that all earn very good wages.IndigoLake wrote:Not sure I can take this list serious as Barrow-in-Furness isn't on it.

I lived not far from there in my teenage years. I always left the place feeling rather depressed. Felt like the end of the world!Burnley1989 wrote:Take BAE Subs out of Barrow and the place would be like somthing out of a horror film, 6500 people that all earn very good wages.

Re: Englands worst places to live
It is just a bit of nonsense really. I went to Aldershot yesterday and it was like a ghost town, nothing welcoming about it at all. Shop after shop boarded up. The Wellington Shopping Centre has only got about 20% occupancy. Marks and Sparks is shut and even some of the newly opened eateries around the new Cinema have already closed. A dump if ever there was one ButI live in Hart local authority just a couple of miles down the road which apparently was number 1 in 2017 but has now dropped to 13th. Who cares.

Re: Englands worst places to live
It is
Town centres are really struggling, and even the ones in the more touristy areas are not doing so well now.
Was in Bishop Auckland the other week, the main street had about 50% occupancy.
10 miles away, Barnard Castle was 100%, but even that was at least seven/eight charity shops

Re: Englands worst places to live
Whilst Burnley has it's well documented issues, imho, it has improved massively since the late 1970's in terms of appearance, infrastructure, housing, transport links, community relations etc ... on the downside, the closure of big employers like Michelin & Lucas hasn't helped, the night-time economy has shrunk, amongst other things ...tim_noone wrote:No Burnley?
I went to school in Blackburn, and still have many friends with links to the town. I organised a re-union for the Blackburn Rugby Club Colts ( U19's ) from 1980 - 83 in October 2017, and of the 51 ex-players I traced ( now in our early to mid fifties ), only 5 still lived in the Blackburn & Darwen Council area. They were spread far and wide, from New Zealand to Italy, DR Congo to France, but of the one's who were local, virtually all have moved to rural Lancashire, mostly the Ribble Valley ..
That town is in serious decline .....
Re: Englands worst places to live
Apparently Shahima Begum when offered the opportunity to come back but had to live in Blackburn told the home secretary to ferk off the Syrian camp was better.
