Looking at replacing the Hyundai I30 estate but wondering what to replace it with

We are a one car family, so it would have to do both local stuff and holidays.

Kids are 10 and 11 (so we need more room), need a roof rack for 4 x bike racks and want decent price, mpg etc etc

Any ideas and experience more than welcome!

How about a nissan sunny?

Seems every1 has one when i go out at lunch in nelson. Must be in..

Nissan Squishsqash (Quashqai) my Step Daughter and husband have one for a family runabout ... her kids are now 18, 16 and 14... bike rack on Roof etc .... Prices ? But Motorpoint and others certainly have late models 12 months old etc pretty good prices

Not enough room in the back for the kids claretdj (though we have considered it!)

Absolutely love it, but I'm a tall bloke and the youngest has no leg room behind me. He's only going to get bigger!

Plus we are an outdoory family, so we tend to take a lot of stuff. Can get quite tight with all that stuff.

I like the Tucson , don't have one but believe they are a decent motor. Mind you would flip with that and the CashCow to use for family and hols.

Last two I've had for similar reasons to yours were an Outlander and a Honda CRV.

I was in a similar position a few months ago, and narrowed it down to an Outlander PHEV, Merc GLC, Afla Stelvio and RR Velar.

Test drove them all and the only one I really liked was the Range Rover, which is a cracking car for the money. Decent size too.

New Peugeot 5008?

Seat Ateca looks nice, as does the Tuscon.

And the Quashqai

Tempted to wait for the inevitable diesel scrappage scheme but we've had it about seven years and its starting to sound and look a little tired.

I've a Hyundai Tucson 1.6 GDI SE ( Nav ), which I've since March, very pleased with it, Lancs. My wife and I are " Shared Lives " Carers for LCC, and we have 2 brothers ( who live with learning disabilities ) in the 30's who live with us full time and it's ideal. I'm 6ft 4ins, and there's decent room in the back. It's built on the same platform as the Kia Sportage, which very similar and may be worth a look, although I think it's a tad pricier ...

Didn't know you were an outdoorsy type, are you familiar with the Keswick Mountain Festival ? We went last year and it was fantastic ...

Peugeot 3008?

We had the older model and loved it got loads in the boot and had an adjustable floor so cold make it level when seats dropped for anything big that needed shifting.

Wish we hadn’t changed it now but thinking of getting newer version when we next change

Yeah, do lots of cycling and walking. Love Keswick! Only an hour from us as well.

Though at the moment work and kids weekend football is really getting in the way of it.

Anyone got any experience with a Dacia Duster - price looks astonishing for what it claims to be

Dacia Duster. Test drive one a couple of years back - feels really cheap I’m afraid, probably because it is. To get anything like a nice spec costs more money and then you’re in the realms of a better car anyway. Some good suggestions on here - Honda CRV is a fantastic car with the same Diesel engine in as in my Civic which is a great engine.

I am almost certainly getting a Peugeot 3008 but for your requirement may I suggest the bigger Peugeot 5008

its got good write ups, but you do get what you pay for!

It is looking like an SUV though, seem to tick all the boxes with what we need

We’ve just got back from a holiday in France and they seem to have gone mad for the new Peugeot 3008. Not seen as many in England but still a fair few.

I’ve had Peugeot’s before, all with Diesel engines, and they’ve been absolutely great. I would definitely recommend.

Dacia Duster's are what they are, cheap and the overall feel of it inside reflects that ... I suspect residual sales values will be low, but that may make a 2 year old low mileage example a real bargain ...

As you'll know, Hyundai's come with a 5 year warranty, so an 9 month old example from Motorpoint will have over 4 years warranty left. I believe they've a dealership in Morecambe, which should be convenient for you ..

Yeah, we do like our Hyundai. Mrs LC is well keen on the price of the Duster but I'm liking the look of the pretty much all the others.

Some test driving and looking around is the next step I reckon.

Easy fix there, Lancs .... Dacia Dusters score 3* out of 5 on the NCAP safety ratings ( poor in this day and age ) ....

Therefore you go out, find the car you want, Tucsons, Sportages, Peugeot 3008's, are all 5* ... When she raises the Duster again, you praise her on her thriftiness & common sense, take her by the hand, look into her eyes and show her the NCAP ratings for the Duster compared to your choice. You gently squeeze her hand, and explain that " I'd never sacrifice the potential safety of you and the children just to save a few pounds " ....

She will then gaze up at you admiringly, with tears in her eyes, and agree. You will get your favorite tea, and the promise of an " early night " when the kids are next staying over at friends !! Job done !!

I have a new VWTuigan R design & very pleased with it, had a c class merc estate & an A6 before it & its as good in every way.

Safety rating is defo the bit I'll be mentioning but I think we might have to have a look first.

We were a bit nervous of the Hyundia when we got it but its a superb car.

Nothing is imminent though as the I30 isn't going anywhere just yet!

The score is dragged down by the entry level model, which I would not recommend. The braking systems on the mid and high level models are fine.

Lancs, it is obvious that you are genuinely concerned about the UK economy post Brexit. Why not show your individual support for the UK by buying a UK made/assembled car?

The Qashqai has been built at Nissan's Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK (NMUK) Sunderland, Tyne and Wear plant since December 2006.

Its on the list, and I'll make sure its painted red, white and blue.

I have a Hyundai Tucson and have been very impressed. It is roomy, has very good ratings for safety and is fairly efficient.

You will see nearly all giving a very good review

Skoda Superb Executive Estate, will tick all the boxes, huge amount of room, all the bells and whistles, economical, basically a larger VW Passat estate at a Skoda price. I drive the saloon as a company car, love it.

My Brother traded his Q5 Audi in for the Kodiaq last year he said why pay Audi prices for basically the same car....

Skoda are definitely a good option if considering any of the VW/Audi options (as are the 'Seat' vehicle range)
