As I am still stuck in Brazil with a poorly wife UptheClarets is my life line. Maybe because I have too much time on my hands but is it unusual for a referee to be a 4th official so close to being in charge of the same team a few days later ?

More usual for it to be the other way round to be honest, not sure how often it has happened this way.

The other way round makes more sense - I would just worry that the integrity of Pawson could be compromised if for example he thought one of our players had got away with something in tomorrow’s game and he might be looking for a chance to even things up. Maybe I have too much time on my hands ?

Hope you can bring the mrs home soon, I think I remember you posting originally and it seems a long time ago now. Fingers crossed

Thanks for the support fellow Clarets. Wife has been in hospital for 3 weeks and 5 days - she has undergone some awful procedures but hopefully we might be allowed home next week. Last tests done today - no gory details allowed - but tomorrow is my birthday and I am hoping that the game will be on ESPN Brazilia - it would be a 9:30am kick off here !! I saw the Brighton game too and have watched football most nights - my conclusion is that South American football is that it is almost a no contact sport as the dives are very theatrical. Good to see that results going our way at the moment and finger crossed for tomorrow- Up the Clarets !!

He's a good shout when compared to tosspots like Friend and (shudder) Moss.

The ref who celebrates goals when Spurs score and he's refereeing, Mike Dean
