Today's game

Post by ClaretTony » Sat Feb 23, 2019 5:14 pm

I don't usually start threads like this after a game but I thought I would tonight. I'm late with everything today because I've been for a drink with some very good friends after the game who happen to be Spurs fans. They were all blown away with how well we played; I'm still absolutely buzzing, can't wait to watch it again tonight.

Poch gave us plenty of credit in his post match interviews as has every pundit. Great win but a much better performance

True, but his antics at the final whistle were a disgrace.

for sure, he'll get done for it - I'd love to know what Dean said to him to invoke that reaction

Think it was mainly just frustration.Theyd have reckoned to be coming
up here and rolling us over.

You can bet MOTD will be focusing on Spurs failings and mostly ignoring us.
Especially with Jug ears in charge. :?

Spurs fans on the way out of the ground were very gracious as well, none of them could complain at the result.

Mrs Aclarets family who are Spurs fans and were on today said we were worthy winners. Now there's a 1st !

It's always strange when you meet up with friends just after you've played their team. It's all whether you can do grumpy better than humility I suppose. They came straight across to me and said we deserved it and played well.

I’ve not seen it back but I think it was because of the corner given prior to our first goal. It looked from Feb Bob Lord that it should have been a goal kick.

Of it was for that, what goes around comes around, because Rose’s throwing for their goal should have been brought back for pinching god knows how many yards.

Not quite as gracious on their forums. They keep using the c word. In many combinations.

Best I’ve seen this season. Outstanding performance against one of the most complete sides in the game, genuinely shocked we got anything let alone all 3 points based on my pre-match thoughts.

I've said on the player ratings thread, and I genuinely believe it isn't euphoria talking, that I think that was our best performance we've produced in the Premier League - certainly at home. It owed nothing to luck, nothing really to a referee's decision (we got a scratch of luck with one of our goals, and were a tad unlucky for theirs, so that's a score draw), didn't involve hanging on for dear life or an inspired goalkeeper. It wasn't in any way smash and grab, plucky underdog stuff. We defended well, but with assurance and created several chances - not just the two we took.

And of course we showed lots of endeavour and commitment and passion, and using the wind and the elements smartly, but above all else I thought we did it playing really decent football. The second goal was lovely, but there was a gorgeous move that ended with Hendrick slotting just wide, the move that saw McNeil's effort blocked on the line wasn't far behind, and the opening goal owed everything to as good a moment of skill as I've seen from a Burnley player - a 19 year old kid whose potential is off the chart.

Really was one of the most satisfying afternoons I've had watching Burnley. Superb. Just got to kick on and make absolutely sure we capitalise, by getting safe and finishing strongly.

Aye we were fantastic today. Spoke to a spurs supporting mate who was on today and his assessment was that we wanted it more and deserved the win.

Possibly the best 90+ minute performance and game I have seen at Turf Moor in the Premier League. As has been said earlier in the thread, it wasn't a skin of the the teeth, clinging on the points performance but, rather, a whole team effort from start to finish. It would be impossible to point at any of the 11 starters and say they didn't put in a full shift or make a contribution to the game. Heads didn't drop after the equaliser and there was always the feeling we could get a winner. Chuffed to bits!

Not as good as the 2-0 over Liverpool, they never got a sniff but outstanding in so many ways.
Most pleasing for me was how we saw out the last 5mins. Barnes and Wood down by the corner flag played it perfect.

What Pochetino should have been complaining about was his teams defending of the corner. All teams suffer wrong decisions.

At times today it was a defensive master class. For 5 minutes before half time, Spurs has the ball more or less continuously, yet never came close to making a chance - at one stage having to recycle the ball all the way back to their goalkeeper. The skill, discipline and organisation of our back line is amazing at times.

Superb performance today. Our defensive work was supreme, Spurs looked to work an opportunity time and time again but ended up going backwards. On the ball we were direct but positive, using the ball into the channel to perfection and targeting the glaring weakness in Foyth.

Most impressive for me though was when Spurs equalised with time aplenty for them to win the game. We rolled our sleeves up, Dyche made positive changes and we went for the win, and deservedly got it.

Great afternoon out!

It's not just the back line the whole 11 contributed to keeping their attempts to a minimum.
