From what I am aware they got a 250 year lease at "nominal" rent for a stadium worth about £110 million* - paid for by you and me (amongst others) along with Manchester council - and have invested about £60 million on local re-generation. So not a bad deal so far.
(*For clarity, they spent about £20 million converting it for football)

Re: Bolton
City’s new youth development and first team training centre – the City Football Academy (CFA) – was today opened by former manager and captain, Tony Book.
The unveiling of the 80–acre regenerated brownfield site, adjacent to the Etihad Stadium and part of the wider 200 acres known as the Etihad Campus, was overseen by Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and the Right Honourable George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer during his visit to the city.
City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak added:
“At the outset of his ownership, back in Autumn 2008, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, set out his vision for the future of Manchester City Football Club. He pledged to bring success on the field and to nurture young talent whilst at the same time remaining proudly rooted to the community in which it resided.
The cornerstone of the future, was a vision for youth development and sustainability; a vision to educate talented young footballers on and off the pitch and to do so in a facility supported by the best coaches and coaching programmes. The vision was underpinned by an unwavering commitment to the regeneration of the local area in both economic and environmental terms.
Today marks the end of six years of extensive research, development and construction involving many, many people. It also marks the beginning of a responsibility to deliver against the opportunities that this Academy now creates for us.”

Not doubting that the dubious owners at City have put money into the community, but are you suggesting that it is purely altruistic, or is it an investment, and don't you think they are getting / expecting something in return?
And to repeat they did get a stadium paid for out of public money virtually for free.
(By the way I speak as someone who throughout my years as a Burnley supporter has always had Man City of one of my "other" teams that I look out for, so I've no bias against the club).

There will be 1000s of new jobs. Where as before it might’ve been a few hundred weekend jobs. You can’t even compare. That side Manchester has been totally transformed since City were taken over.dsr wrote:If they're getting credit for jobs created at the Etihad, remember to knock off the jobs lost at Maine Road.

While the Etihad campus is indeed impressive and gives that troubled part of Manchester employment opportunities - I believe people need to understand the exercise "sports-washing" and "soft-power" that has gone on here given the records with Abu Dhabi - plenty of posts on the subject in the magic money tree thread this year

Let's not forget though the cafe's, bars, pubs, restaurants, shops etc in the area where Maine Road was which would have lost so much income which would result in closure, to say it was a few hundred weekend jobs does not cover it.claptrappers_union wrote:There will be 1000s of new jobs. By the way, I am not saying the move to The Etihad was right or not or more jobs have been created or not, just saying weekend jobs we're only effected isn't correct.

They're also chatting about it this morning from 9am.
They've already had some on who're blaming Anderson for it all

Re: Bolton
This is really a difficult decision for the league. They know Bassini is unsuitable but if he is the only game in town that keeps Bolton as a club going what do they do?
Re: Bolton
Not a difficult decision at all, if he's not fit and proper he shouldn’t be able to be the owner. Sets a precedent and if that's the case of just give it to him as he's the only one , then might as well get rid of the fit and proper rule.

If the EFL is just going to keep bending over and allow itself to be shafted by clubs who can't manage their finances then what's the point in things like FFP?
They've set a precedent now by handing over Bolton's money early so they can honour their fixtures.
If they can drag this out until the summer with no sale in sight then the EFL should grow a set and drop them out of the league's and ban them until they get their act together.
That should make some other clubs wake up and take notice.
Same with Birmingham proper taking the ****.
Re: Bolton
I don’t have any sympathy for Bolton but it’s no surprise the league are helping them out.
Loads of clubs have breached FFP rules in the past and many to a greater extent than Bolton when you look at QPR, Leeds and others. Look at what Wolves did last year - they had a team of top European players loaned or bought by the biggest set of dodgy deals from Mendes that the league has ever seen - what was their punishment ? Promotion and a top 10 position in the premier league. How can anything Wolves did not be in breach of rules that are supposed to cover “fair play” ?
And then we get to the likes of Man City, Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid etc...which I know are governed separately but the magnitude of their financial breaches dwarfs anything Bolton have ever done and these teams just carry on getting away with it....and always will because the authorities know their own gravy train just does not exist without the rich leagues and rich clubs.
What would be the reaction if they tried to deduct points from City, PSG or Real Madrid ? Never going to happen.

Hope for the sake of their fans and football in general this financial mess can be sorted and get Bolton back to being about football.
A proper club with a great tradition who as founder members, 4 times FA Cup winners and good local rivals to ourselves share a lot of similarities to us Burnley fans both past and present
Good luck Bolton and fingers crossed over the next few years you will just be a normal football club once again

They won't be the last club to be ran badly, there's others getting close to the mess Bolton are in, Birmingham being one to start with.
Football in general needs to sort itself out in regards to finances but the governing bodies haven't got the power/guts to do it.

Looks like he's the only game in town.
If they decide he isn't fit for purpose, which they won't, then they can stop the sale of the club.
They can also actually monitor and approve all transfers, contract renewals etc.
There's always more options over selling the club to someone not fit for the job.

If you have a prospective owner who MIGHT not pass the fit and proper test, then it’s not going to be great is it.
Re: Bolton
This couldn't be scripted, the new potential owner has not really looked into the debt, didn't have enough time! 5 year plan to get back in the PL.
This really will make a mockery of the fit and proper test if he gets in.
The murky world of Bolton Wanderers finances.
How much did Davies actually take out of the club? Writing £180m off, who does that? Has Anderson fired a parting shot at the way it was previously run? Well he least he paid his family well whilst he was at Bolton.

Bassini will be negotiating with creditors - if he pays all debts in full the full credit to him as all other suitors did not want to.
One thing for sure is - if you are a new owner and repay all outstanding debts for which you were not responsible, it buys you and incredible amount of good will going forward in the community
The key question remains though - just where is he getting this money from - had none relatively speaking a couple of years ago and none of his 3 new businesses have yet filed accounts

Bassini is clearly a fantasist who's wallet is even more empty than his head and his threats. His track record in business and in football is basically appalling and if I was a Bolton fan I'd be very, very scared. As regards him passing the "fit and proper persons test". Should be a piece of cake!
