Re: Bolton on the brink of liquidation.
The only positive is it could serve as a wake up call to the EFL to do something, and other clubs who're sailing close too or over the edge with their finances.taio wrote:You do have to wonder what goes through someone's head to think it would be good for Bolton to go under.
Clubs have carried on risking it because they're probably thinking they won't lose their league status regardless of what happens.
If a club finally does lose their status it could, bizarrely, be beneficial.
Most people widely agree Portsmouth was a shambles and there was some serious **** taking going on down there with all the changes in ownership, the amount of money written off etc.
I'm not saying I should be Bolton either that goes.

I've always disliked Bolton as I'm over the border in Bury. Throughout school I was constantly arguing with Bolton supporting kids. Even though the dislike I wouldn't want to see the club in this position and feel for their fans and staff. There's no gloating just sadness and pity.
Problems deep rooted with Davies huge investment with a business plan based on PL income, Gartside's ill health and then letting holdsworth and Anderson take control.

Re: Bolton
What has happened at Bolton must be a lesson to all football clubs.
Poor financial management will always lead to collapse, bankruptcy, loss of jobs, tears, etc etc.
I am so glad that our Club is in the hands of people who are not prepared to 'break the bank' for short-term gain!

Re: Bolton
I don't want Bolton to fold, the whole 10yrs ahead of us stuff was Coyle, not the club. However they cannot be allowed to play just when it suits. Seems everyone is at fault, buyers, sellers, administrators and the league, it needs someone to get a grip... Quickly

Rovers will be long gone by the time its our turn.
If Bolton actually go in the coming weeks I can see the flood gates opening, with the likes of Blackburn Rovers being the next in line
With the Rovers debt and there uninterested foreign owners, I really think the writing could be on the wall for them. Once clubs start to fold the Venkys will think let's bail out and get shut of the ball and chain that is BRFC

I think Stanley, easiest club to get to for me
Re: Liquidation
Might trot a long to the odd Accy Stanley game, but I'd try other things like festivals , watching different live sports and probably a new hobby. I only support 1 team and have no affection or passion for another team in this or another country.
Genuinely cant understand how people follow/support 5 teams in 3 different countries.
Its Burnley for me and that's it.

Another way of looking at it - and I think Moses was correct when he said Bolton were 10 years ahead of us in this respect...I think we are now (10 years on) about where Bolton were 10 years ago - youth set-up, training ground and facility wise....we are probably a lot better off financially mind, and have a far superior manager of course.

Probably a german team that’s cheap to get to and cheap tickets. Probably Frankfurt. I don’t reckon it’d that expensive to watch them at home every other weekend.

Re: Liquidation
In answer to the original post......no team would replace Burnley. I left the area in 1981 yet still travel the country watching them from Sussex. I also sulk for days when two points are snatched from us in those circumstances yesterday.

I would still perhaps have an interest in watching some other teams do badly...not actually watching the game, just the results and tables.

I think Bolton’s move to Horwich is also a factor
The likes of Burnley especially with the club smack bang in the town centre but also Blackburn and Preston where your in your sort of ancestral home means there a lot of fan and business identity that would make them more hardy if the bad times hit.
Maybe another Bolton team set up on a patch of grass actually in Bolton is their best way back
Re: Liquidation
Leeds, Leeds. Leeds. Marching on together.
Re: Liquidation
I'd turn my back on Premier League football entirely and probably go along to the odd few games a year in the lower leagues at clubs local to me.
The Premier League is a horrible, superficial competition that has been ruined by money, fame, celebrity, agents, too many foreign players and managers etc. I wouldn't miss it one single bit and if and when Burnley do get relegated I'll be delighted in that respect, providing that the Championship hasn't become a mini version.
I grew up being obsessed with football and it was the thing that kept me going through some tough times, so I don't think I could give it up.

Re: Bolton
NL Claret - I agree with just about every word of that. Real sadness to see a club like Bolton go, if indeed they do, but they've been badly run over years, just dipping into one man's money and they should be forced out. But, real sadness to see a club like that go and I'd say the same if it were those by junction 4 on the M65.NL Claret wrote:I've always disliked Bolton as I'm over the border in Bury. Re: Bolton
Clubs in that position would be better downsizing, selling assets (eg Rovers' Training Ground) and moving to smaller, more modest surroundings, even ground sharing temporarily if necessary, to keep going. Don't want clubs going out when in time it'll all "reposition itself" - can't go on like this.

Why has the liquidation thread been merged with this?
We may as well merge the Ashes with the players rating vs Wolves thread.

Ken Anderson claims the outstanding signature on the FV deal is that of Keir Gordon, the solicitor of late #BWFC owner Eddie Davies. He adds that the situation is "outside my control". A full statement is expected in due course through his legal reps. #bwfc
Latest from Iles. I wouldn't be trusting what Ken says though.

Re: Bolton
As much as I get the tradition view the situation, in reality, is that they have been legally insolvent for many years and only managed to keep playing because of dodgy, if legal, accounting practices and not paying people and businesses what they owe. They get away with it because it is a community's football club however their situation can be compared to a local shop or even a local newspaper - maybe much loved but no longer a viable business. Too many local competitors as well as TV makes life extremely tough for small town clubs, especially when a location is over-provided with such businesses as the Manchester/ Lancashire area clearly is.
The integrity of the whole football pyramid means that clubs will be born or be reborn and some clubs will die - just as the affectionately regarded Woolworth chain of stores did a couple of decades ago.

Re: Bolton
I'd imagine most Bolton fans would like to rewind the clock back to 1997 and redevelop Burnden rather than building a stadium they could not afford. The hotel has been the only thing that has made a profit.
Most of the Bolton fans I know only gave it a couple of seasons at the Reebok then packed in going. When we went in the promotion season when vokes scored the crowd was sparse. Even thiner on the ground last season when I went v WBA. Parking wasn't an issue.
