Oscars
Whilst I have no interest in watching the rich and famous patting each other on the back, I caught a little of what’s gone on over there on the TV this morning.
Is it just me, or does Spike Lee come across as a bit of a ****?

Re: Oscars
I also caught a bit of it on the news this morning and cringed almost immediately when it showed the acceptance speeches. Why anyone would want to watch such a self congratulatory circle jerk is beyond me.

Re: Oscars
Apart from celebrating some of the superb cinema and all it entails that's been created over the past year.

Re: Oscars
i agree with SammyBoy...I do like Olivia Colman and think that she is an excellent British actress.
However I went into cringe overdrive this morning when I saw her gushing all over Glen Close and Lady Gaga..was that necessary?..then the awful over the top acceptance speech. I thought they had agents and 'their people' to stop this sort of dreadful nonsense occurring.
Maybe she was just pi$$ed on expensive Californian white wine.

Re: Oscars
I presume the Aussie cricketers in sandpaper gate won something?
The best bit of acting since Mike Baldwin in Corrie with his illness.

Re: Oscars
It was her that I was thinking about when I wrote my initial post (I also like her as an actress FWIW). I've found that for some reason British winners at these events tend to play up to the bumbling Hugh Grant-esque stereotype we've somehow got and it's painful to watch. I mean if you're nominated at the Oscars it's not that inconceivable that winning is a possibility. The final straw for me though came when listening to the radio review and they cut to Samuel L Jackson screaming something indecipherable and I immediately thought "what a tool". Safe to say these things probably aren't for mehampsteadclaret wrote:i agree with SammyBoy...I do like Olivia Colman and think that she is an excellent British actress.

Re: Oscars
Rileybobs - my comment was a little tongue in cheek in reference to the issues raised at last years awards, and that this year there appears to be a more normal distribution across the talent pools for the awards. A little mischievous of me I admit, apologies.Rileybobs wrote:Such as?

Re: Oscars
No probs - my misunderstanding! Things did go overboard the last year or two, to the point where it was clear that films were being made with an Oscar in mind. This past year has been pretty appalling for films in my opinion, but I don't think there can be many arguments about the winners - having said that I haven't seen The Favourite.Rick_Muller wrote:Rileybobs - my comment was a little tongue in cheek in reference to the issues raised at last years awards, and that this year there appears to be a more normal distribution across the talent pools for the awards. I hear ya, but someone needs to tell that to Spike Lee.Rileybobs wrote: but I don't think there can be many arguments about the winners
I thought he was disrespectful in suggesting "the ref" got it wrong. Why would he try to upstage the winners like that?
****.

Re: Oscars
He was asked a few questions about who had won, but when asked about the winner of best film (green door I think) he said the ref got it wrong. Asked again later and he said summat about people having different opinions - which is fair enough - but at least give credit to a winner, and he wouldn't.
Came across really badly imho. Seemed to me he was reluctantly talking to the media, and that came across with his attitude. Looked and sounded like he wanted to be out of there. Quite arrogant.
