Yes. I don't think we're having enough elections/referendums.

Might see the daft old goat off and get some intellect back on the opposition front bench though. That is, if we still have a Labour party in a couple of years...

The problem is the issues with Brexit

- GE doesn't solve anything

- 2nd ref does, whatever the result

Spot on.

But I think JC would be even more stupid than he appears if he really wants a GE. He's had more oxygen for his batshit mental ideology over the last two years than in the previous 40.

My 17 year old lad at college says the kids are already bored with him, apart from the Student Union of course...

Lab vote and Corbyn personal popularity have collapsed in the last two weeks. Reality has opened the eyes of the left to realising that without the centre they can't win and will only get absolutely hammered.

Whatever the Independent Group do from here on in, they have opened up the process that was in danger of us dropping out without a deal.

Which is a massive plus, whichever way you want this to go.

You think a remain win solves it. It would be 1 1 and the uncertainty continues. We need a deal sorting now.

It does solve it though summit.

Will it stop people talking how the the EU is the EUSSR and that we will all be speaking German?

Course not, but thats not the point is it?

Cheers Hapag, but that isn't the case at all.

I do wish you lot would use your considerable powers of ignoring reality for good occasionally! It would make a difference.

It depends on what the question is. Keir Starmer was on the telly this morning saying that the question should be 'Leave with May's deal' or 'Remain'. That wouldn't satisfy a lot of people.

You don’t respect the result of the first one, why would anyone believe you would do so with this one..... unless the result suited you?

I'm impressed that you lot think I've got this sort of power.

Keep it together lads eh, you lot are hilarious when you lose your rags.

I'll repeat it again for the benefit of those who don't want to read what I'm saying.

"Only becomes relevant if the ERG and the DUP refuse to vote for Mays deal, which is Brexit"

You should be shouting at ERG MPs, not me!

The moment the referendum was over every remainers should have disappeared and left negotiating to the leavers. Why did we allow negotiations to be carried out by ministers who were remainers? Makes no sense!

There won't be a second referendum because there isn't a majority for one in the HoC - this is why JC has offered it. He's not as daft as he looks. This is about shoring up support in the PLP.

The reality is that it's May's deal or no deal.

I've been banging on about a "First Informed Referendum" for ages now, it's about time some of you little Englanders expanded your minds somewhat.

JC playing a blinder so far...despite the expected muck spreading from the usual suspects.

Because the ERG are all mentally deficients who have their own agenda. This has nothing to do with what is best for Britain.

Nobody shouting from what I can see.

Just asking a question.

You employing delaying tactics so you can have a little think?

Why do you want us to believe you will respect the result of a second referendum, when you clearly don’t for the first?

If a second referendum went for leave again, you’d just accept the result with good grace and get in with it yeah?

This

The 2nd ref relies completely on the ERG not being absolutely weapons grade bellends with no idea of what is going on.

Even I reckon they are not that daft!

If May plays her cards right she wins, she holds all the aces. With the DUP she has a narrow majority but Labour is well and truly split ( north and south, leave-remain, anti-semites etc). The problem is May is not bright, has few friends and confidants and can't be trusted to bring home the bacon. Likewise Corbyn is not the sharpest pencil in the box. Meanwhile we are all bored to death by this constant kicking the can down the road, into the long grass and playing for time. She should go for it now, call out the ERG and DUP and act like a Prime Minister rather than a vicar's daughter!

The answer is to have a referendum to see if the voters want a 2nd Brexit referendum :)

Bobinho

- accepted the result of the first, back Mays deal (said numerous times on here but to little effect cos you lot only read and see what you want to see)

- back 2nd ref over a "No deal"

And again, I'm one voter. My vote in another vote will always be for remain, and I'd campaign for re-entry into the EU if we leave. That doesn't mean I won't accept the result, but that doesn't cancel any of my democratic rights to continue to want something else.

And the same applies to you.

Pros and Cons of living in a democracy I'm afraid

A 2nd referendum is the biggest load of shite the country has ever seen.

They will only allow it if they can guarantee the result suits the MPs agenda not what the public wants.

They couldn't give a flying monkey about what the people want and never have, they just use us to get what they want.

I am, in no way, a May fan but I think she has been brilliant. She knows a no deal is disastrous for the country but she also wants to see the referendum honoured. She is hoping that the EUs hope for a deal will force them into a last second climb down. None of us know but they do have a history of it. The Greece and Italy financial disasters spring to mind.

Agree Qtt hence the question in the event of another referendum.

Mayhem's c**p deal which Parliament itself has voted down or remain,if that's the two options on the ballot i'll not bother voting.

I guessed from June 2016 this scenario would come to pass,so i can't say i'm :o

If we end up remaining and somehow the Marxist gets the keys to number ten,i will take amusement in him trying to justify why he can't implement large parts of his manifesto due to EU competition laws.

Disgraced Labour MP Fiona Onasanya released from prison after less than a month in jail for lying to dodge speeding ticket – and could now vote on Brexit

The 35-year-old politician will have to wear an ankle tag but could return to Parliament for Brexit talks tomorrow having refused to resign her Peterborough seat

This is what British democracy has been reduced to in 2019.

17,410,742 Britons voted to leave the European Union in the biggest single expression of democracy the nation has ever witnessed.

And a woman that should have been stripped of her role as an MP will join a few hundred co-conspirators to thwart brexit and democracy itself.

She'll be able to walk out the prison and walk straight into parliament to help stop Brexit, earning £77000 per annum, WEARING A BLOODY TAG!!!

I trust you will be ready when the nation calls SWC! You will have to inform us all what Leave means in this 2nd ref.

As I understand it, Labour's position is now a 2nd ref with straight choice between 1) May's "deal" (a withdrawal agreement with actual deal still to be negotiated but outcome as informed by South West Claret) or 2) Remain. I must admit that is very funny.

The whole thing is a farce.

All we have done is prove to the EU that Britain would rather bitch and argue about how bad something could be than actually stand on their own two feet. There should have been a plan quickly made after the vote, then argue how it should change. Then make plans to cope with a no deal should that be the case.

But no. Let's shout about how the others are wrong and the vote shouldn't have been and people who voted got it wrong and leave the EU laughing at how Britain doesn't know how to run a country without the EU. If I'm wrong, then fix it. If I'm right, carry on complaining till you get the vote you want, I wonder if it went the other way people would cry about it the same way.

I have little faith any good can come of this for a long time whichever way it all pans out.

There are some absolutely hilarious over reactions to something that won't come about and has been labour policy for about six months!

For all of his flaws, one thing I always thought Corbyn had was principles and the courage of his convictions.
He clearly doesn't even have those qualities though.
This goes against everything he believes in.

He's been forced into this Damo

Lots of threads on twitter on it.

Watson/Thornberry and the moderate trade unions plus the support for the 9 MPs who left has forced this.

Once the MPs quit, one of the parties had to move this way, and it was always likely to be Lab.

And it shows that he's not all powerful amongst the MPs

If its May's current deal v remain I am not voting. No point its remain forever or remain with a chance of A50 again in the future. Reckon most leavers won't vote and just say beat 17.4m and you win uk establishment. Thrn get revenge at the next GE by voting in the new brexit party.

Poor man's Alf Garnett.

The poster...not Corbyn....I've never known my Labour supporting friends to be as United behind a leader as they are right now. The chance of a referendum certainly made sure I was back on board too.

Just think about it. How can a vote between a 230 vote thrashing option and remain be ever seen as democratic. Ditto a choice between 3 options. It as to be leave remain with a sub question on the leave options.

"As I understand it, Labour's position is now a 2nd ref with straight choice between 1) May's "deal" (a withdrawal agreement with actual deal still to be negotiated but outcome as informed by South West Claret) or 2) Remain. I must admit that is very funny."

The position will be I expect that the "First Informed Referendum" choice will be: a) Out on May's deal or b) Stay in.

I find that nothing less than the intelligent way to go.

Those are the options on the table summit.

"How can ever voting for something be democratic"

It is, when all the other options don't work.

The poster...not Corbyn....I've never known my Labour supporting friends to be as United behind a leader as they are right now. The chance of a referendum certainly made sure I was back on board too.

And what percentage of the electorate was that? As the abstainers are happy with the status quo the Brexiteers are still a minority bricking it because these no voters might get off their arses and vote next time.
This woman has it spot on.

Its the last resort isn't it?

We only get there if everything else fails.
