Cant win em all
No complaints. Rafa had us sussed. Played two wing backs who had acres of space and time all the first half. And they took the chances.
Could we have done better with the goals? Yes. Did we miss Westwood? Massively.
But its a reality check and a lot of work yet to do.
Bring on palace.
Two wins and a draw from 10 games and we will be fine.
Some massive overreactions in the stand tonight. Keep the faith.

I’ll be amazed if Westwood was the only player who was ill from the squad.
So many lacklustre performances.

Not just in the stands - I had to laugh at a message popping up in a group chat after the 2nd goal “we’re fu(king ****!!!”cricketfieldclarets wrote: Some massive overreactions in the stand tonight. Keep the faith.
Just because a team who has stopped our unbeaten run with their 4th straight home win scored 2 against us.
Re: Cant win em all
One poor performance in two months, I’ll take that. Need to be back on it for the weekend though.
Re: Cant win em all
Just hope Wolves play well against Cardiff at the weekend as they've been less than useless against the bottom sides!

Newcastle weren’t as good as Spurs. Fact.
We were never at the races.
Poor performances in too many positions.

Tonight was probably the perfect example of way SD will never get a top job.
He is good for Burnley etc etc, but when it comes to the crunch, tactic wise , he is lacking.
Instead of strengthening midfield he resorts to hoofball plus.
I'm not calling for a change or anything remotely like that, just merely an observation of the difference between him and Rafa.

Can't win em all, don't expect us to win em all - I expect us to be able to make 10 yard passes though.
Major improvement needed for the weekend and if there is one thing this team has a history of it is reacting to a bad performance. Roll on the weekend !

Re: Cant win em all
And so every time a goalkeeper gets beaten, they have to show the reserve goalkeeper's reaction? They did home in on a smiling Hart after the first goal and I must admit the I didn't like it. He who let in forty one goals and should never have been signed in the first place.
Re: Cant win em all

If he is lacking in tactics how many teams have taken points off Man U. or Spurs recently?

No offence intended Spijed but that's the problem with people like you, you can't have a serious tactical conversation about what we could have 'possibly' done to change the game. So instead you throw out the 'overreaction' line and offer nothing in terms of debate.Spijed wrote:Strewth, talk about overreaction. Newcastle are one point ahead of us.

Re: Cant win em all
Bardo off, 3 5-2 so we matched their midfield, get the wingers into a position to cross the ball instead of Tarks pinging the ball 60 yards and missing his target 100% of the time. Considering the previous 70 mins was abject Dyche needed to change something and Crouch for Barnes was pretty pointless without getting crosses in from the wingsbfccrazy wrote:What formation would you have changed to?

Bardsley was keeping Rondon covered at their breaks on that side though. And had to contend with their best fullback putting balls in, why would you choose to take him off and give them more freedom?Vegas Claret wrote:Bardo off, 3 5-2 so we matched their midfield, get the wingers into a position to cross the ball instead of Tarks pinging the ball 60 yards and missing his target 100% of the time. however he could have gone
Heaton
Mee Tarks Taylor
JBG Hendrick Cork Brady Barnes (he's played there for us plenty of times)
Crouch Wood
or
Heaton
Bardsley Mee Taylor

Crouch Wood or Barnes
sticking with the 4-4-2 clearly wasn't working so to stick with it all game was pretty pointless. Not saying for one minute 3-5-2 would have deffo worked, but 4-4-2 deffo didn't work tonight

That is a very fair point. Some people are prone to that on any subject. The only reason I write it is because he or she has done it to me many times.Vegas Claret wrote:No offence intended Spijed but that's the problem with people like you, you can't have a serious tactical conversation about what we could have 'possibly' done to change the game. I personally would have switched to 3 at the back tonight after it went wrong. We got outnumbered in midfield.
I agree Dyche has his limitations - as has all his players. But tonight was an acceptable off day. Rafa has won a Champions League. Big difference. Credit where it is due. No offence to Sean.

yeah and it's no biggy, I don't expect us to win all the games - our run has been incredible and we've played some great stuff, but tonight we couldn't make 10 yard passes and over hit pretty much every direct ball. It was an off night simple as that, we need to put it right for the weekend though and I'm confident we will - this team usually reactsSpijed wrote:It's just the fact that we've played poorly for the first time since Boxing day (2 months)!

Re: Cant win em all
and that's the thing, not a single person has come out and said Dyche is an idiot etc, someone made an observation (correctly) that sometimes he could do with having a plan B and tactically he needs to improve - I would imagine he'll be the first to admit it too. People just can't seem to get their heads around the difference between an observation and a pointless criticismCrosspoolClarets wrote:That is a very fair point. Playing Tark there is a bit silly in my opinion a big role he has is to keep those balls getting headed back which he was doing plenty of in the last 20 minutes.
Barnes could play out wide I guess so you have agreed that Dyche is tactically inept because he didn’t choose one option of playing Barnes out of his regular position for 20 minutes at 2-0 down......
This football lark is easy as a fan but those choices are not obvious ones.

The only change that would have bothered them at all was Crouch, Wood and Barnes against their back 3. There was a hell of a lot of grappling going on from both sides but against 2 their 3 were too good.
I thought it was ironic when Pawson made the Newcastle player go back ONE yard to take a throw-in.
Bad day, put it to bed, hope any other illnesses are cured for Saturday.

Put it down to a bad night at the office,BTW Newcastle have now won 4 PL home games on the bounce, including beating the reigning champions, let's have some perspective, fortunately Cardiff and Brighton lost so no damage done and one less game for them to make up the deficit.
I'd expect a reaction on Saturday for the Palace game,3 points from that and we'll be close to safety.
